  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not sure that she was the first to name God. I think she just recognized God's hand in her life when he comforted her.

In the bible she is ... and yes her naming had to do with this, but my question is why was she the first, is there any signifgance to this, or do we toss it aside as having no relevance ...

It could be because she was rejected and alone and God came to her to help her. Maybe the Bible is showing that rejected people are seen by Him too.

Genesis 16:7-13
7 The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. 8 And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”

“I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

9 Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” 10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:

“You are now pregnant
and you will give birth to a son.
You shall name him Ishmael,a]">[a]
for the Lord has heard of your misery.
12 He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
towardb]">[b] all his brothers.”

13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seenc]">[c] the One who sees me.” 14

to give it a go ...

because she is a picture of our soul with a husband not her own who was impregnated with his firstborn son who's name means to hear GOD and she was told this by a angle/messenger and so measured GOD by a hearing of the ear

Some have rendered this: "she called on or to the name of the Lord"; rather than saying she named the Lord.

"And she called the name of the Lord that spake to her" seems pretty straight forward, wouldn't you think?

The Bible does not record anyone other than her up to this point using this name.

Well, reasoning will not suffice; we need to always see Scripture in the context and compared with all other references. God is Lord over this world and Hagar knew that, and as the Angel spoke she knew it was the Word of God. I personally don't think she named the Lord, but I will leave the subject alone. Keep looking up!

For me, the bible references itself no different then God refernces himself, but why reply a 2nd time if you didn't want to give your opinion about a question you don't see as a question? I would be interested in how you reasoned this out, or came to this conclusion ...

Hagar was not looking at God because no person has seen Him and lived-John 1:18

Consider other scriptures other than Genesis 16:13: Genesis 16:7; 32:30; Judges 6:20-22; 13:22. The apparitions or human forms were angles or Christ himself.-John 1:1.

God appeared to Abraham as three men ...
