A serious flaw in some versions of the Unreal game engine, which is used by various PC games (and not only within the Unreal series) can allow hackers to take over their machine. Games affected include DeusEx, Rune, Tactical Ops, and several other titles. Gamers are urged to check the latest patches from those publishers to determine if a fix is available.

Off-topic to the linked article, the auto-download function makes downloading malicious code quite easy. When playing online (as most unrealies do), if the PC does not have a file that the server requires the player to have, it automatically downloads to players cache. Don't get too worried thuogh, some requirements are put on the file type, it must be a valid unreal file type (.ucl,ogg,ect). But still, I'm weary of downloading files from servers, which is why I'm glad UT2K4 has a Standard Servers Only option.

Hmmm, sounds like this could be a problem. Not sure if any of my games use the Unreal engine or not. I doubt if they do. I usually update EVERYTHING on my computer once every few months anyway. Of course, I update the more important stuff a lot more frequently. Norton Internet Security 2004 is updated sometimes daily, all my Spyware scanners and blockers are updated once every week or two. Windows is updated as soon as the patches are available. And games are generally updated after I install them and then sometimes later if I remember to check.
