I wouldn't want to take a gal on the very first date to the range, I gotta know her for a while and know her temperament and personality.

If she is too girly, it might not be such a good idea handing her a powerful handgun.

or....... she may end being the stalker type & you mite not want to get her too familiar with weaponry

I voted that I hate them. They have no purpose other than to kill, which is not something we need to do. It's not something God really likes, eh?

You can't do anything with a gun but destroy...can't even make a lamp out of one. So, no, I hate them...

For someone to actually LIKE weapons...well, I can't comprehend a mind like that...

You don't have to kill the person you shoot. If you know what you're doing and have been properly trained there are ways to take down an intruder and not kill them. To say that guns are only for killing is short-sighted.

Yeppers. Those are my thoughts, too. Because, I might be wrong in assuming this but, someone who likes guns and has guns is willing to take a life. Sure, under special circumstances, but willing to take a life nonetheless, and I don't understand how that can be reconciled with Christ's teachings.

The idea of liking knives is... am surprised by that. Same purpose, but more brutal. Am just very confused.

This is another misconception as well. We don't own guns hoping and praying someone will break into our homes or carjack us, just so we can't shoot and kill them. In Arizona, if I shoot someone who is breaking into my home, I have to be able to prove that there was sufficient cause for the use of deadly force. If this can not be proven, I am going to jail for a very long time. Also, I can not kill someone to protect my property, there has to be an immediate and lethal threat to my life to justify the shooting. Also, I was told that if someone does break into your home, immediately call 911 and keep them on the phone during the encounter. If a shooting does happen, the 911 recording will be extremely valuable evidence in any legal proceedings that may happen afterwards.

Yeah, but didn't He say elsewhere no more than two swords? That means I can only buy one other gun. I believe self-defense is part of providing for my family.

I'm not all that liberal, but a gun-range date would be an off-putter for me. *laughs* It's a very strong statement of what interests you and what your political leanings might be, and that may be what you want to get across in a date. Personally, I don't know if I'd want to know that much about a guy early on in a relationship. I'd rather know about his work and his hobbies first. Of course, if shooting is one of your hobbies, that would fit in. I'm just sayin'...

Synger, wouldn't any date you go on be an off-putter for your husband?

Who's "shooting their guns in the air"? If you wanted a thread where people could just trash talk guns and the people who own them you shouldn't have made this a poll and asked for input from people who own and carry guns.

Perhaps me being Canadian with a lower crime rate makes my opinion as it is. Most of us do not have weapons in our homes.

Ever heard of stay out of my house? 911 is pretty much ineffective if you have someone actually in your house who is brandishing a weapon. You really think the perp is gonna let you call 911 and tell them about his or her presence? A baseball bat is a close range weapon and not good for defending your house. Oh yeah, I'm really gonna be able to pack up my house and move to a better neighborhood while there's a home invasion going on. Are you serious with this stuff?

A great story that proves guns are not automatically evil. It's the intent of the person using the gun. A gunman in a church. I never thought I'd see the day.
