You can, you just have to say it's for something else when you do the paperwork.

Much like you can't buy a Corvette ZR1 to drive 100mph on the freeway when you think no one is looking, but we all know that most people buying them are going to do exactly that.

To think that a person is going to buy a handgun, and it's not going to be the first thing they reach for in the middle of the night if they hear someone breaking in, is naive.

It's not like Canada has a gestapo force traveling around the country, randomly popping into people's homes, to make sure they're abiding by their storage laws.

I'd be willing to venture a guess that there are plenty of Canadians who have their guns in an "easy to get to" place should they ever need it.
No...aparently Canadians buy 9mm automatic handguns as collectibles or hunting purposes. Nothing else will take down a brown bear or a bull moose like a 9mm. So says Joe Biden and the Canadian firearms experts like @JosephZ .

Long guns of course.
AR-15s and equivalents are classified as "long guns". And you assume there is no correlation between " long gun" sales and the Canadian failed attempt to register all "long guns" in 2013?

Yet Canada is at a a +50 year high of people leaving the country...because it is such an awesome place to live.
A lot of those leaving the country are immigrants returning to their home countries. Canada also set a record for people immigrating to the country.

A total of 405,750 immigrants were recorded throughout 2021, with 138,182 in the fourth quarter alone. Immigration flows grew throughout the year, with 70,467 in the first quarter, 74,353 in the second quarter, and 122,748 in the third quarter, the second highest quarter ever.

Hunting with a 9mm semi-auto? Really? More like hunting home intruders.

You're not being honest. I haven't said anything of the sort.

Why? Because they feel unworthy of their maple syrup? Or perhaps they realized things were better in their home countries?

I'll plagiarize a bit here and quote Bill Maher (who's on the left)

There's such a thing a "progressivism gone off the rails" and "the excesses of the left" that are very real, and are the reason why people (who are mostly progressive) are leaving places that were considered bastions of progressivism.

The small exodus from California to Texas would be evidence of that.
Why are so many Californians moving to Texas? | wfaa.com

20% of the new residents to Texas came from California.

...and 300,000 of people who moved to Texas last year, were from California. (and many other former Californians moved to Arizona and Nevada)

It's not because their views necessarily have 100% alignment with the average Texan. It's because when someone has a bad experience with something, their visceral reaction is to gravitate to something that's the opposite of what they just had a bad experience with.

Even though "Freedom" and "Government is bad" has become a bit of a bumper sticker, there's clearly something appealing about the notion of lower taxes and "the government stays out of most of your business" that even appeals to liberals who had previously chosen to live in Cali.

I would assume that most of people moving from Cali to TX are still pro-choice, still okay with gay marriage, still okay with legal pot...but clearly something made them think that TX was the lesser of two evils. California should look critically at that and want to know why.

I'm guessing it has to do with housing prices and the fact that you can walk around most TX towns and not have to watch out for human feces in the streets, but I'm an Ohioan, so I can't speak for them.

Oh really? Because I asked:
Okay. I am calling your bluff. Why else would anyone buy a handgun.

Yes, a lot of progressives are leaving the despot known as "California" because the policies that they advocated for and voted for failed miserably. And yes, many of these individuals have failed to recognise their responsibility in making their own livelihood unbearable in their home state. So they are migrating out if their state out of necessity to "greener pastures" and still fail to see the error of their ways. Which is why there are billboards advertising newcomers to "welcome to Texas but keep your politics in California."

I assume the same holds true to Canadians.

Then you tell me why Canadians are leaving the country at such an alarming rate? It it because they feel unworthy of it's glorious healthcare? Or perhaps it it because they are fed up with the garbage?
Canada Net Migration Rate 1950-2022. One thing to consider.

Another thing:

please stop posting inaccuracies that are solved with 12 second duckduckgo.
Just do it yourself. It's a Brandolini's law situation.

Just as an FYI, that is a proper chart found on the internet. But the biggest burn? This downward trend is ALL under a strong liberal government.

Man....what a hellscape we don't even realize we're in.

In the meantime, the US government "for whatever reason" doesn't bother to keep track of how many people emigrate (really guys? That scared to share that info?). This organization estimated about 4.1 million in the diaspora in 1999. In 23 years, they believe that number has doubled to almost 9 million.

Please note what happened to Canada by viewing the graph above.

It would feel disconcerting to consider that perhaps America is the hellscape but some people are simply happy there....in a hellscape?

Please do NOT post "TrueNorth News" as legitimate news. They do not tell factual news.
Nope, you are on my thread and responding to my article. If you don't find it "legitimate," go somewhere else. Otherwise, prove it wrong.

Didyou not say that people buying handguns do so for hunting? See post #56. Are not bear and elk hunted in Canada?

Well,
1) It is NOT legitimate. IT was started up around the trucker stuff. There is no attempt at bias or reason or, apparently fact. See 2)

2) I did prove it wrong. Quite definitively....with two different sources.
Soooooo
