  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What? Can't afford a PPKS? Bersa is a nice gun, but not exactly in the WOW class of a Glock. If you're thinking of a small shooter go with the Walther P22. The most incredible gun on earth. In either barrel length the thing shoots same hole groups all day long with any round you feed through it. (Not standard velocity though.) I have never seen one jam with a decent cartridge or not.

And if you haven't seen what a .22 CCI Stinger can do, go out and look. KUH-BANG!! The .380 is doing what 700FPS? I don't own any guns at the moment, but I had one on my hip and a rifle in my hand just about every day from the age of 12 to 16.

I don't think the Smith & Wesson made Walther PPK/S's are worth the $800 they're currently asking. People who own them have nothing nice to say about them. Jim's already mentioned the "biting", they also jam constantly and they suck at feeding hollow point ammo. No thanks. As for a .22, my brother has a .22 and I've seen it not fire more times on the range than I'm comfortable with in a confrontation situation. Also the CCW instructor advised against a .22 as a CC gun. You'd have to shoot someone a lot with a .22 to stop them. I'll take the Bersa .380 over a .22 any day. Hell I'd take the Sig 232 over both the Walther and the .22 as well. But having shot that gun, I don't think it's worth the $700 they're asking for it either. Also I don't like the way it ejects spent casings. I've had too many come back and hit me in the face.

I have. I think that's the .22 my brother bought at the gun show last year. I always tease him about it an say that he doesn't have to worry about "stopping power" with that gun, because the other guy will die laughing. He still carries it everywhere.

Actually i'm thinking about legal issues. And criminals do not intimidate or scare me. As they think they've sized me up i've done the same with them, the gun would only be to halt whatever they're doing and to keep me safe-er, and to prevent actual death of anyone.

I honestly disagree about the deadly force. I understand where you are coming from, but a lot of 'shooting' happens because of panic, unpreparedness for that spur of the moment surprise that comes at ya right between the eyes, or just plain laziness or bad attitude.

But thanks for your perspective. I have zilch experience with guns. My perspective may change as i learn more.

If you take a CCW course, you will hear the same information about body mass and shooting to stop a perpetrator that Jim relayed to you hear. It's the standard teaching. I'd suggest you get a "tac" light too. It's a high-powered flashlight that will blind the intruder temporarily, which will help ensure that you get your shots off first before he does. You can mount the light on the gun itself, if it has a rail, or you can buy one and hold it in your non-shooting hand.

 No I don't have a 1911~my first SA auto would be a Hi Power over a 1911, though I did qualify Expert in the Marine Corps with a very worn out .45.

We're ony concealed carry here in PA~havent' tried the shoulder rigs~all hip/pocket carry for me. Guess I'm working on 11 years with the license. In PA there is no class or testing~we're a "Shall Issue" state; as long as the sheriff can't find anything they have to issue the license. When they started this people predicted the "Wild West" would return; been quite the opposite in regards to crime on our town:thumbsup:

Yeah, Arizona is the same way, you don't need to take a class or get a permit for open carry. They do a background check and if you pass that you're good to go. There's also no mandatory waiting period. One requirement is that you must live in the state for I think 6 months before they'll sell you a gun. And of course, there's limitations on where you can and can't carry. Like I can't carry my gun onto an Indian Reservation and I can't carry it into any establishment that sells alcohol for consumption, like a restaurant with a bar, or a bar itself.

I don't own any (yet) but I've learned how to properly care and shoot several fire-arms my FBIL owns, including a Glock 9mm, Bauer 25 auto, Bushmaster M-4 (my fav.) and a few others.

Bushmaster M4

very kool

Ya, that's the lovely stereotypes of gun totin' people - if you love guns and want to carry one for protection, you must be one of them wild west, OK Corral nutbags with an itchy trigger finger, just waiting for someone to look at you crosseyed so you have a reason to take them out.

It's really ludicrous & sad - the majority of regular law abiding people who love guns are very nonviolent & respect life.
I think it's a stereotype people will always carry - like many others. (altho, some ARE justifiable) lol

well, you know, size doesn't matter.......

but seriously, I was just noticing how hairy his knuckles are

So in other words his knuckles should be dragging on the ground instead of holding a gun? ^_^ Just what are you trying to NOT say Nadiine? :p

Don't underestimate the power of denial. She can think she's right, but I know the truth. LOL Anyway, this reminds me of a funny story. I work in the family business selling German-made piano parts. There's a show once a year in Anaheim, CA called the NAMM show. That stands for National Association of Music Merchants. Anyone who is involved in the music industry in some way is there. Everybody goes to this thing. Fender, Gibson, Martin, Zildjian, Paiste, Marshall, etc. Anyway, one night my dad was out to dinner with the guys from Renner in Germany and they were coming back from dinner, but were having a hard time finding their way back to the hotel. So one of the German's came to the most logical conclusion. He said to my dad "You know what's happend? They've obviously moved the hotel." ^_^ That's a German for ya. LOL
