It would appear to me that many people seem to feel so guilty about petty things in their lives. I am not talking about wrong doings that hurt others, but silly thing like thinking sensual thoughts or forgetting to pray or read their Bible etc. Guilt is corrosive, in my opinion, and I have got to the stage in life where if I have hurt someone, I apologise, and make amends, then move on. I certainly don't feel guilty about stuff that doesn't hurt anyone else.

I've certainly seen a lot of folks on CF who go to great lengths to find something, anything, to feel guilty about. It appears that they are not happy unless they are continually repenting for every imagined sin in their lives (even feeling guilty about their dreams!).

While, in theory, some religions appear to offer people freedom from guilt, most seem to use guilt as a manipulative control tool to keep "the flock" in line.

IMO, it's one of the most injurious features of organized religion.

While your statements are true we should remember that we are sinners no matter how well we live Gods word. Christians shouldn't feel guilty for being sinners. We are what we are and thank God that he sent Jesus down to earth to save us. We can stop feeling guilty and just try to live as God has told us to but remember that Jesus is our Savior.

This may have some truth, but it is not the whole picture. I agree with your original post but if we have got to the point that we can hurt others and not feel any guilt about it, we have searing our consciences and are in trouble. Feeling guilty if we hurt others is a sign of spiritual life. The absense of feeling guilty when we hurt others is a sign of spiritual death.

The guilt I am talking about is not the guilt we feel when we have hurt others, but the guilt some people would have you feel for things that don't hurt others, but they would claim were 'sins'!

By commiting Sin you are hurting God. We are all sinners but the more we sin the More we hurt him. He gave his Son to save us from our sins but by living in Sin we are still hurting our Lord and Savior.

Hebrews 6:6

if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
