I just got this game and I really like it so far. It's my first online RPG.

Name: Ihriel Scorpia
Profession: Necromancer/Elementalist
Lvl: 5

Any other GW players?

Also, anyone interested in teaming up for some questing with me? I'm still hanging around the beginning areas of the game. If you're interested PM me.

One question, what is the whole Pre/Post Searing worlds thing?

After you've finished the "tutorial area"(first 5-6 levels) then there is a scene where the kingdom gets attacked by those creatures(name escapes me right now) and they destroy everything including landing a huge meteor/stone in the middle of the castle. In the manual its told that they destroy pretty much the entire kingdom, Two other kingdoms are also attacked. One accidently sinks itself into the ocean killing most of its population when they try to counter the attacks with magic, The third kingdom manages to defend itself if I remember correctly.

The "proper" game takes place sometime after these events and the Prelude/Tutorial just befor.

I've had GW for over a year now. I might be able to help you out a little if you need it. I can't help much in the way of items, since I'm short on them myself. I have a couple of level 20 characters that could help you through missions, though.

I play monk, ranger, necromancer, and I've got a low-level warrior, but I don't know if I'm going to take her through the whole game.

My easiest character name to spell is Kiru Boneflame. Feel free to send me a message if I'm online. I don't think I'll be online much in the near future, though. I might be online over this weekend for the dye chance increase.

Oh, pre-searing is the tutorial area, where monsters are much weaker and the Kingdom of Ascalon is still strong. Then the Charr figured out a way to breach the Great Northern Wall (the Searing). Post-searing, Ascalon is much weaker, and the Charr have invaded.

Another GWer over here

I've had GW for almost 2 years, have all 3 chapters, and have have 5 level 20s. (Ranger/Elementalist, Warrior/Elementalist, Monk/Mesmer, Necromancer/Monk, and Dervish/Monk) I have several up and coming Characters as well (an Assassin, Elementalist, and Paragon).

For someone starting out in GW I have a suggestion:
Guild Wiki (google it, apparently n00bs can't site link, understandably)
Read it. Read it good. I have not had a question it did not answer.

I realize you just dropped some cash on Guild Wars Prophecies, so i can't blame for not wanting to spend more cash. However, I find Prophecies to be very story heavy, human group dependant, and not very insta-gratafication (ie slooooooooow). (Which is fine unless you're like me and prefer other gameplay types) So I might suggest picking up Factions, for a heavy PvP experience, and an Asian motif. (Ninjas approve of Factions ) Guild Wars Night is also very story-driven, but is much more solo-friendly, and moves at a quicker pace.

This is merely the two pennies that belong to me.

BTW: PM on CF or in-game (name: Rekcurmug Eoral) to see about questing or I might have some stuff laying around you could have.

Eventually, I am going to pick up the other two expansions, (and the forthcoming one).

One thing I really like about the game is the whole trade system between players.

I'm trying to get into the flow of trading to bring me money, which I realized that I desperately need if I want good armor and weapons. Especially weapons, you can only get really good ones from other players, and usually because of demand the rates are phenomenal.

Man I hope I can get hold of a really sought after weapon that I have no use for.

The thing with GW is that the really pricey weapons only cost more, but they aren't necessarily better.

For example, Drago's Flat Bow (a unique) is worth ~40,000 gold now. I have a flatbow that I got from a collector that I added a couple of cheap mods to (<5,000 gold total). My bow is just a couple of points short of being as good as Drago's, but mine is significantly cheaper. Even if I went after the perfect mods to get the same stats as Drago's, my bow would still be cheaper.

What's the difference? The name, and the weapon skin. GW was supposed to be accessible to everyone, so good items aren't too expensive. More elite items (nicer skins, etc.) have the same stats, but are much rarer.

So, yeah, if you get one of those really fancy items, and don't care too much about the name and the skin, sell it. Get a weapon with the same stats that is significantly cheaper.

Gumrucker is definitely right about Guild Wiki (http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page). It can answer 99% of your questions, and is a huge help.

I don't have Nightfall, but I have to say that it would probably be better to get before Factions, even though Factions was released earlier. There aren't too many people playing the PvE (story) part of factions, and heroes from Nightfall would be a great help. My ranger has had some troubles getting through some of the missions (especially ones where you have to carry an item).

I actually met my wife playing this game, and my parents said nothing would ever come of computer games. Hah! Take that parents! :p

Anyhoo, that aside, it can be a really fun game. The most frustrating parts are usually finding a good party, especially when reaching high level areas as they can be quite brutal. The number of times I've gone to the Underworld or Fissure of Woe, normally pretty decent gametimes of about 2+ hours for these areas, and have some jerk go, "Dinners ready, cya!" and leave, are countless.

So my advice would be to start getting some in-game friends around your level, who you play with regularly and get along with well, and stick with them. It can be great for forming good friendships. I wouldn't go for the Factions addon either. It has a horrendous difficulty curve, which makes finding good parties harder, and to be honest isn't that great. Nightfall on the other hand is fantastic.

Cheers!

I don't know how close you are to your guild but maybe you'd be interested in joining mine? We need members lol. We do have a vent if you're interested but we tend to talk about, erm, "less tasteful" subjects so I don't know.

If you are interested send me a message ingame via Ihriel Scorpia, Vladimir Cochet, Zoe Yavetil, or Uruviel Taralom.
