  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just got back from the doctor. We had a sono today and by their estimate the baby is already 6 pounds maybe a little over and btw I'm only 34 weeks!! So because I'm only 4'11 a vaginal delivery may not work out for me. So we decided that if I go into labor early on my own I may try for a vaginal birth depending on his size. Otherwise we have a c-section scheduled tentatively for the 26th of December. My due date was the 7th so at least I won't have to go until then :). I was just shocked when she told me how big my baby was, I nearly fell off the table!! My little guy might be a big boy! He's healthy though so that's all that matters!

Wow, at my 34 week ultrasound Ethan estimated weight was 4lbs 4oz.
Yep he's gonna be a bit big I think. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I haven't been sick at all during my whole pregnancy...or it could just be genes who knows . I'm pretty shocked though.

Hmm.

My baby was barely 7lbs and got stuck and has this huge bump the whole right side and back of his head since birth. They say it'll go away by the time his soft spot closes but that's where he kept being pushed into my pelvis by each contraction. Not to mention the fetal distress etc so I can see the point of wanting to make sure he's okay. Looking back though I'm glad I gave vaginally delivery a try.

If babies grow half a pound a week from 36 weeks on you could have an 8-9 lb baby.

Yeah it's just not worth the risk to me especially since I would have an epidural anyway. I'm fine with a c-section.

My thought is bigger babies, more to love haha :). Actually they say bigger babies are happier babies, they sleep better and cry less. I don't know how true that is but it sounds good haha. We'll see :).

Just remember that your body won't grow a baby that's too big for you to birth. Now whether or not you're up for the challenge of birthing a bigger baby is up to you...

My chiro (who's 6'4") and his wife (who's barely 5') had 3 kids. She was ALL belly all 3 times, and her babies were all a little over 9lbs... but she birthed all 3 of them vaginally, even though her OB told her it was "impossible" (with her first). She just looked at him... went to a midwife, took Bradley classes, and had the midwife there as her doula. She did Great, and had No tearing either... After that experience, she did homebirths with the other 2. With one or the other one (can't remember which now), the baby "got stuck" in an odd position and she stopped progressing. Her DH, the chiro, adjusted her, the baby turned properly, and she birthed within the next few minutes. Chiropractic care is amazing. :)

Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you that you Can give this a try vaginally... C-sections are there for real emergencies... why should a larger baby be considered an emergency? The size of the baby's Head, and the Position the baby is in, are FAR more important than the amount the baby weighs...

The Nurses, the older experienced ones and one OB didn't think I was "tough enough" to give birth to Ethan vaginally. They didn't know quite how stubborn I can be or how badly I wanted a med free as possible, vaginal birth.

Remember no matter how small the baby is if you don't believe in yourself you are in a lot harder of a position than you need to be. You have to believe with every ounce of your being that you can push out your baby...or at least that's what I think.

If I where you I'd try vaginally and if you run into problems, go for a C-Section....than again according to my Dad I'm the most pig headed contrary child God ever made. :p

Just curious, why would you schedule your C-section for 2 weeks early? If you know you most likely are going to have one, wouldn't you want to wait as long as possible to give your baby as much time in the womb as he needs?
According to a friend of mine who had 3 planned C-Sections after her first...she didn't dilate. They make it for 38 weeks so that they don't risk she goes into labor on her own, or less of a risk.

I get that, but you can still have a c-section if you go into labor naturally and at least that way you know the baby is really ready to come out and has those last couple of weeks for even better lung development.

wondering about how big this one will be... Robert would probly have been atleast 8 if he had been full term... he weighed 4lbs when he was born at 31 weeks...

when I had a US a few weeks ago (18 or 19 weeks I think) he was already about 9 oz

I don't understand this either... I've seen this trend for early c-sections for several years now and it makes no sense to me (except for the doctor's convenience).

Taking a baby early, or scheduling an induction early, only makes it Harder on the baby. The Last thing to develop is the Sucking reflex. So many many babies being born even 1 week early now-a-days are having problems with breastfeeding right from the start. And some babies born 2 weeks early are having even More problems.

It makes Far more sense, to me, to wait until you're due or go into labor on your own to have the c-section so that you Know that the baby is Ready to be born.

I have to disagree. My first was 10 lbs. 4 oz. He had to be pulled out with forceps because he wasn't going to come out on his own no matter how hard I pushed. In hindsite he should have been a C-section. We both would have been better off. He was also 9 days late and I showed no signs of going into labor so I was induced. No telling how big he'd been if we'd waited until my body decided it was time. Yikes!!

I have to disagree, also. My first was 9 lbs, 4 oz and I was unable to give birth vaginally. My cervix refused to dilate. I went through Bradley classes, I was intending on a natural birth (My husband is also a chiropractor and did everything he could to ensure my body was in proper conditon for birthing). I did go into labor on my own, but after 20 hours of hard labor, I was only at 5 cm and was shaking so severly, I was nearly in convulsion. We opted for the C-section at that point, because we didn't feel it was worth the risk to me or the baby to continue to try to labor. This baby will be a scheduled C-section and I'm not going to be ashamed of that.
