You have a good point there.
But ... the kids that I went to school with werent methodist
or lutheran or anglican... they were reformed. They actually
told me on the playground that I worshipped idols. I was in
third and fourth grade! So i can only imagine what their parents
thought.
I still remember when I was in elementary school, a girl told me that her parents told her she could not play with me because I was a "dirty Jew" and I don't know how young I was, but I remember thinking that they were wrong because I took baths and I was sad and confused.

she was sort of like them in that she
would not allow me to do anything that wasnt 'catholic'.
No VBS's , I had to have a "Catholic" catechism book at AWANA,
I would not let my kids go to a Protestant VBS, do not want to confuse them at an early age

Sunlover I am not offended by anything that you have said. I freely admit that my first choice for my sons would be a good Catholic girl, so I understand where you are coming from. Marriages tend to be more successful when both husband and wife are of the same faith tradition. Since both of my sons now reject Christianity, and is something that I wonder what I did wrong every day, I would be happy for any help that may come my way and that would include any good Christian woman who would bring them back to Jesus.

God Bless,
Nancy

Sorry, I guess it is just old age creeping up on me, but what is VBS?

I'm sure most would agree with that Rham.

Thank you Nancy.
I think it's a pretty normal way to feel.

Since both of my sons now reject Christianity, and is something that I wonder what I did wrong every day,
You?!
Oh no, you can't blame yourself. I refuse to take the
credit OR the blame for my kids' spiritual lives.
You can offer, but you cannot force feed.
Each has their own choices to make. Besides..
God has a way of making all things beautiful in the end.

I would be happy for any help that may come my way and that would include any good Christian woman who would bring them back to Jesus.
And I feel that way too.
:amen:

Then they will be better ready to come to GT like we did

There is pain with equally yoked as well as unequally yoked...there are no guarantees with marriage.

True, but the more obstacles you place in a marriage, the harder it is.

I dated outside of the WELS for quite awhile because the pickins were slim. However, I continually found that the relationships with those who didn't believe as I did were much harder than my marriage has ever been. My husband and I don't agree on everything, but we agree on what we believe and that gives us the strongest united front. It gives us the foundation to help get through arguments and disagreements and family crises. Without that foundation, every normal obstacle or problem that a marriage may face becomes even harder to overcome.

I mean no offense by this and I in no means can speak for sun, but MANY evangelics don't necessarily consider those in the RC church to be CHRISTian, not that they can't be, but that by using her system likely are not, from my view this seems to be a very serious issue.

 Thank you for coming out and saying it. I agree it is a serious issue and they are of different faith traditions and it can cause problems in a marriage.

That said, it is precisely because of this view (my own evangelical family tends to hold this view) that an overwhelming number of evangelicals hold to that most in the RC (or Orthodox Church if they've even heard of it) aren't Christian, it is more than hypocritical of those same people to then criticize those two groups for having a defined idea of what constitutes the orthodox christian faith, how it is practiced, and what being in communion means (which usually excludes most things heterodox). We aren't unified by communion, theology, etc. We are of different faiths.

To sunlover1: Your son is an adult. He may or may not listen to you. However, if you push things too much, he might dig his heels in. I would state my concern and leave it.

Greetings. A niece of mine [daughter of my brother] was a non-denom Christian and dated then married a Messianic Jew. She then converted to Messianicism and they both get along just fine. :)

Success in such marriages usually depends on one or both people in a marriage not being serious about their respective faiths, or one spouse converting to the faith of the other.
