  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They are mostly old-school trash in the vein of old metallica. Of course, both bands' sound has changed, but megadeth began with the same style as metallica did.

yep! I recommend Megadeth's first four albums! Which are just awesome thrash. If you like old Metallica, here you go. Most people just cant stand Dave's vocals, but get over it! Plenty of awesome riffs you are missing out on!

Oh yeah, and Motley Crue, W.A.S.P., and Skid Row, I consider metal. Skid Row's second album is what lands them at metal. Motley Crues first album is great metal!

For the people interested in Christian metal. Mortification is an awesome death metal band. Of course Stryper, if you like glam rock. I am also a big fan of Eternal Decision, though I haven't heard their third album. Their self-titled and debut is killer!

I like something out of most of the main genres, except for Death and Black Metal. Just really can't get into that, although one or two bands I do like apparently have played in those scenes in the past. I do have loyalties to Industrial, though, Industrial Metal included obviously.

Let's see though, bands:
Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Megadeth, Queensrÿche, Nightwish, Evergrey, Circle Of Dust, Klank, Celldweller, Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills, Ratt...and now I can't think of any more, but there are others.

Safe it to say my tastes are in Industrial Metal, Power Metal, NWOBHM, Hair Metal (I really don't differentiate the way MetalBlade does, since when I hear 'glam rock' I think of David Bowie and Sweet, not Poison), Prog Metal, 'Symphonic' Metal, Classic Heavy Metal, and probably a couple others I can't remember. Yes, I know, I left a couple of those genres out from the list of bands, but considering I'm more of a casual fan I'll come across bands in X genre and listen to them but it's probably not enough to definitively say that they're a favorite.

Metallica mostly (Master of Puppets/And Justice For All)

Since I try to get all my music legally, coupled with the fact that I'm lazy and don't have a job, my music collection isn't that big.

I like a song or 2 by Death.
Runemagick is cool (and unknown I think?). It's doom/death?
The Lords of Algol fall into the same catagory as Runemagick I think, but with some synthesizers.

I got a few Dimmu Borgir songs, but it isn't really my style.
Dave Mustaine can't sing. Good Mourning/Black Friday is still cool though.

*looks through playlist*

Uhmz, old Within Temptation can be classified as Gothic I think. I also got a compilation album with some gothic songs.

That all said, metal classifications confuse me, so don't get mad if I got any completely wrong.

[QUOTE;Hobo[IG leader]Is Megadeath really that good? What is their music like?
[UNQUOTE]

Oh yeah, they are that good.
as one other person here mentioned Dave Mustaine{Megadeths founding memeber and only remaining one; or I could be wrong I think the other Dave may still be w/him} started w/Metallica in the early 80's but was kicked outa the band due to too much drug abuse{which he has since abandoned}, he started "Megadeth" and did similar music to early Metallica, in fact early Metallica recordings{particulaerly the first two albums} have alot of Daves guitar influence.

Somebody here mentioned that they usually call the band "Dave and Co"{or something like that}; I;ve got a better title for the band that I've heard that is closer to their actual name-in fact I know that at some recent concerts fans have shouted this name "MegaDave"{LoL!!!}.

Megadeth took a "Risk" or two in the mid-nineties and veered away from the thrash sound to a slightkly more alternative metal sound w/some thrahs influence{like Metallica did}, excpet unlike Metallica Megadeth stil retaine dmore true thrash metal influence and sound in there.
Since then he has come back to pure Thrash{particularly with his/their last album "The System has failed" which sounds a bit like their heaviest and most prolific album for cult folowers of the band "Rust in Peace" mixed w/the sound of their first pseudo-commercial but still thrahs release "Countdown to extinction" and and actually their second last album "The world needs a hero" is similar to that sound as well}.

Megadeth are gods! Dave is a god, though he now is a born againer himself{though less vocal about it then say Alice Cooper and other Born againers in the metal scene}. The latest album "The system has failed" shows some of Daves Christian worldview in a couple songs-one having lyrics dealing somewhat with Buiblical stories, and the other song "Shadow of deth" beeing Dave dooing a metal guitar solo and in his usual menacing, sneery metal voice reciting the 23rd Psalm, and like his earlier albums this one{album} also has some Political commentary.

Some Albums of note to get if you check them out are:
First and foremost- "Rust in Peace"
"Peace sells but who's buying"
"Countdown to extintion"
"Cryptic Writings"
"The World Needs a hero"{which contains a follow up song to the song "Hangar 18" from the album "Rust in peace" called "Return to Hangar". "Hangar 18" beeing one the most beloved MegaDave...excuse me..."Megadeth" songs of all time}

They have other albums, but these are the most notable ones.

One person here noted how they don't care for Daves vocals. Personally I love his vocals, they are unique, no one else sounds like him exactly. He has a fairly good range which he usually keeps in a sneery, menacing tone. Some of them are like Grunty Whines{particularly in songs like "Sweating Bullets"-a song about schizophrenia}.

One of the most notable things about Megadeth are the amazing guitar solos on most of the albums, sometimes on some albums such as "Rust in peace" for example the whole song is like a solid guitar solo delivered w/the rest of the instruments and Daves singing, absolutely incredible; Dave is an incredible guitarist along w/his unique vocals, in fact he is always counted as one of the best guitarists ever in the metal scene.

Another notable thing are the lyrics, they really run the gambit. You've got religious commentary{usaully not anti-christian or pro either,it's hard to explaun, but looking back over his carreer you can see that Dave always had a mental beleif in god and certain christian ideals even when he was'nt christian}, to social and personal issues, to really well written songs about socio-political and straightforward political stuff, as well as Dave seems to have a penchant for writing songs about political/gov't power hunger/corruption and conspiracy theory, as well as he has a penchant for having written some really amusing vengeance oriented songs.

3 cheers for "Megadeth"
"MEGADAVE,MEGADAVE,MEGADAVE"!!!:D

[QUOTE;Mystman]That all said, metal classifications confuse me, so don't get mad if I got any completely wrong.[UNQUOTE]

Hey, no worry. It can be confusing, not only does metal have sub-genres but the sub-generes have sub-sub generes and they have sub-sub-sub genres in many cases.

I try to keep it simple and seperate the main first level sub-generes as much as possible.
I seperate into:
1}glam metal/hard rock
2} Classical Metal
3}Thrash Metal
4}Death Metal
5}Grindcore
6}Old school/raw Black metal
7}Synth Black Metal
8}Nu-Metal

But I have bene into metal for long enough that I am able to seperate bands that have a mixture of genres into the proper sub or sub-sub generes{usually} that are'nt mentioned herein{like "gorecore","power thrash", "speed thrash", "alterna-thrash", "metalcore', "hardcore", "punk/thrash", "gothic metal", "gothic hard rock", "gothic death or black metal", "s-word core", "Unblack"-which is the christian form of black metal that wishes to refrain from black metal terminology-not all of them are like this in fact few are, "Life metal" christian death metal- a label few christian death bands use, "Christcore" a label that a few of the christian hardcore and grindcore bands use, "Tru Norweigan black", "Melodic death metal", "progressive death or black metal", "progressive thrash", "death/thrash or black/death or black/thrash,etc", "european fantasy oriented progressive metal", the list goes on and on allmost ad nauseum}.

I usually forgive it when people don't know how to classify metal bands, etc But I do think that any self-respecting metal freak into any of the egenres should try to learn the basic first several I mentioned or at least know how to seperate into 3 or 2 categories of classic metal, glam rock/metal, thrahs metal, death metal, black metal{but this may take some time too and I totally understand that myself, unlike some closed minded idiot metalheads whom forget they too were ignorant of all the sub-genres and how to classify}.

The there is "gothic" and "Shock Rock". These two can be said to exist in all sub and sub-sub,etc, genres of metal{and shock rock can even exten beyond the borders of Heavy Metal and has it's apostles in other msuic genres-even in Rap and Pop,etc}.

Oh and in spite of the Ozbournes recent attacks on "Iron Maiden" at Ozzfest, I have this to say;

"UP THE IRONS!!!"

I was gonna mention it but got tired of typing genres,LoL!

Besides "doom" is kinda like "Shock Rock" and "goth", it crosses genre boundaries.

I've found myself partial to "math metal" as it's sometimes called. Dillenger escape plan is a good example. Mastadon is pretty awsome. Unless you're from the northwest you might not know who Botch is but they freakin rock. Will Haven is awsome too but don't know that I would call it math metal.

(warning, shamless plug) And the best band of all is mine, GRIEVING SUN!!!
