We have communion on the first and third Sundays as well, but being a former Catholic, I would rather take it every week. However, we have confession every week as well. I have no idea what LCMS doctrine is on this, but I guess I could look it up. 
What I like about my church, and we have discussed this before, is that mine is one of the only LCMS churches that offers open communion. If you are a Christian, you can take communion, no matter what denomination you are. That's how it should be in my opinion - communion should not have denominational boundaries.The Lutheran Rosary is very, very interesting. Thank you for sharing that.

Yes, I was tickled to find Lutherans here as well. I was participating in another forum over the Christmas holidays and was quite alone. Plus the debate just got downright ugly. Very discouraging...but then I found ChristianForums and there are plenty Lutherans here...and if there are ugly debates here...I have managed to navigate around them so far. I appreciate all the rest of the Lutherans here because I am only Lutheran by marriage. I don't have a lifetime of Lutheran study behind me to draw on. I have taken one college level doctrine class but that hasn't all quite "stuck".
I am LCMS...do not know so much about WELS other than they are more conservative. I look forward to learning from you. I am also doing Lutheran college...in a way. I am enrolled in distance learning program for Lay Ministry certification. Don't have a clue as to what God has planned in this but I am excited to have the opportunity.
Switching gears....
Our church has communion every Sunday service AND Wednesday evenings (except during Lent and during Advent). It is absolutely wonderful!!!
We offer both individual and common cup at all services. On Wednesday nights I figure common cuppers outnumber the individuals 2 to 1. I am a common cupper.I was on a pastor call committee for our congregation a few years ago and every candidate in our list pool preferred communion at every service. That spoke volumes to me.
We also offer communion to all believers who have appropriately examined themselves. This is not typical of LCMS congregations.

We just went to twice a month two years ago. We'll see what happens with our new pastor. At one time, we had two services on Sunday, so communion would alternate betwwn the 8 and 10:30 services. Then we had people complaining that there wasn't enough fellowship with the two services, so we went to one. This is when communion was every Sunday at the 9 am service. (sometimes a flakey congregation) Interim pastor enters, and it's changed to every other. (majority of congregation wanted it that way?)JVAC said:

That's cool! I go to a very large church (3000 members) and it's had 2 communion services a month for years longer than I've been a member. I might mention it at a voter's meeting sometime, tho. You never know.JVAC said:

Hey all-
Lotar, the Church of Christ does not necessarily say that it is forbidden unless it's in the NT, basically they say that they try to follow the examples of the church in the NT, not using instrumental music,by taking communion every Sunday, they believe the "healing, tongues, miracles, etc." gifts passed away when the last of the apotsles died because they were given the ability to pass those gifts on and now we can't. They teach baptism, and that it is essential. THey (no bashing) are for the most part legalistic, teaching a check list (though they will not say that) I think though as I've gotten older that has changed, it's not like that now. Grace and love are taught more ofcours some traditions are still alive and well like the lack of instrumental music but they no longer try to beat people over the head with the bible and think they are the only one's going to heaven. I say they because the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, it drove me away from God, now I just try to follow Jesus and love my brothers and sisters and do what I know is right depending on God's grace to save me from my sin.
