• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Greetings

Hi,

I'm new here, although I'm no stranger to chronic pain and have been getting very helpful insights from the BrainTalk forum...

I have degenerative disc disease in my spine which has already led to one fusion surgery at c5/6 (in my neck). My neurosurgeon now wants to do a THREE level fusion above my first one. UGH! I'm resisting for the time being, as the first surgery was pretty tough on me.

If I were not a lover of Jesus, (or maybe it would be better to say, if I wasn't aware of the love He has for me!) I could not make it. It's amazing how close He draws near when we're in need, isn't it!?

I do use prescription medication to deal with the pain I have, (neck, shoulders, arms, hands and recently started to get occipital - or cervicogenic - headaches, which are KILLERS!), and struggled with it at first. However, it's really, really difficult to even make it through the day with my medication.

I do work full-time for a missions training/sending agency, and can be very thankful that I have the type of job I do, as it's not physical at all.

Anyway, I just wanted to jump in here and say HI!!

I think you should google John E Sarno, and checkout Scott Brady at thebradyinstitutedotcom. See if you have the pain producing personalities. After about 4 years of chronic pain, I am free. Find the root cause.

I spent some time reading up on Dr. Brady's approach to pain and it does sound interesting. It's not a new approach to say the least, however, I think he's put a new spin on it.

Can I ask what type of symptoms were you dealing with prior to getting free from pain? Looking back, would you consider your pain chronic? (I find many people use that term juuuuust a little too broadly. i.e. an occasional migrane, a nagging, aching back, etc... A subsititutional word could also be intractable. So, for pain to be chronic, it's not only unrelenting, it is, in most cases untreatable. So to use myself as an example. No matter how much medication I take, my pain does not go away, it's with me 24/7, and there is no way to treat it. We can only slow down the progression of the disease somewhat).

I'm curious to hear what you were facing.

I don't seem to fit the personality type he describes, and my symptoms are very different as well. Discs that have degenerated to the point where they are basically no longer there, which causes significant crushing of nervs and/or spinal cord compression is difficult to pass off as a personality defect. :)

Anyway, if anyone else has benefited from this type of treatment I would be interested in hearing your stories. Also, if anyone has more detailed info regarding Dr. Brady (that which is not his own marketing material) I would like to hear that as well! I mean, come on! If I'm able to re-inflate the cervical discs that are basically gone, and undo permanant nerve damage that was caused by those discs, then I would be VERY interested in hearing more about it. However, I'd like to hear from others who have experience this themselves, not marketing info from Dr. Brady.

I've got my eyes set on the resurrection!!

I suffer chronic pain, due to a disc that is messed up in my neck, and I have Lupus, which is so painful as it attacks different parts of my body in an attempt to destroy my immune system. I stayed off of pain meds for years, only using non narcotic, until a week ago, now, if I don't take a dose , I get a headache, as if it's telling me to take it, I really don't want to get addicted to them so I am off to more doctors next month in hope of getting some type of surgery to fix the disc at least. Prayers help.
