And anyway, Andre is such an eloquent speaker and hits the nail on the head on so many things, theres nothing else I or anyone could possibly say. So I guess we've kinda created Andre our official U2 spokesman. ;)

This is an interesting point, actually. For any of you who've ventured into the General Apologetics forum, there is a poster named seebs who you might call my "Axver." He posts so many wonderful things that I agree with, and I am sometimes at a loss of things to say, since he has already said what I think ;)

Hmm...this means that the results of the battle of the bands tell us nothing. Therefore, we are simply left with the realization that we should consult the majority of all other polls conducted and conclude that the Beatles are the greatest band ever. :)

Hahaha, not quite, my friend. The battle of the bands is fun, it doesn't have to tell us anything. The fun of doing it, IMO, is reason enough to do it.

Also, an interesting question for you, or for anyone else I guess: do you really want to know what band is the objectively "best band ever?" If so, why? I ask because I would never want that to be the case.

maybe i should have made the POINT bigger as no one can seem to hit it.

not saying (should have known you'd never make it to the disclaimer) the two bands are terrible or even bad or even just so so. just saying that there seems to be no point in pitting them, their members or their work against that of other bands, because the result is a foregone conclusion.

it's like going to a star trek convention and commissioning a poll to see what the greatest sci-fi movie ever was.

Hey brett

I have to agree with Arwen on this one. There are a lot of DMB and U2 fans around here; it's the nature of the beast. As confrontational as this sounds, if you can't stand the heat, get outta the kitchen. I hope you don't get out of the kitchen, because I'm always interested in more opinions on music, but that's just the way it has to be around here. :sorry:

Forget DMB or U2, everybody needs to get off the beatles.

The beatles are the most overrated group ever...
That is a crock, you could never, I repeat never, calculate the influence that the Beatles had in music, period.....

Top line, OR!! ^_^ And very true...nobody will be swayed easily by anyone else here, and I think that's good, simply because my musical influences (and everyone elses) have been crafted by years of careful listening and critique, and although tastes change, the roots are firmly embedded and can hardly be shaken.

BTW, my weapon of choice would be a guitar, and I'd be quite happy to play it instead of do the Townshend treatment on it. ;)

The color ***** doesn't look very good on me and I'm not feeling great about it either, so I'm taking off for a few days and hoping that I feel better by the time I get back. Again, I'm sorry if I've really alienated anyone. We all have bad days and mine was just worse than most people today.:(
Apology accepted. I pray that the time off is refreshing for you. :prayer::hug:

The POINT is that this is a forum on the internet, not the G8 Summit. If you don't like what's going on here then don't participate.

if you can't stand the heat, get outta the kitchen.

Hasn't anyone noticed the left side of the final 4 bracket is the title match from the last BOTB? had u2 been on the other side, it would be the same final.

**Grabbing all the cookies, turns on the way out of the kitchen to say: **

How can it be "fun" when you KNOW the outcome? As much as I loved the outcome of the 85 World Series, or the 98 NCAA Basketball Championship, it's not nearly as much fun watching them over and over again.

** Don't ask for the cookies **

Personally, I enjoy the actual process-- explaining our thoughts on different bands, and why we like one more than the other. I could really care less who wins. *shrugs*

the 98 NCAA Basketball Championship

You've got blessings on the way for mentioning this :) Kentucky fans take care of their own.

In fact, how 'bout a cookie for a fellow UK fan? :D

Brett when you see 2 posters whose screennames start with the letters "DMB" as well as all the other DMB fans voting for Pink Floyd over Dave Matthews, your "point" ceases to exist.
You got disgruntled a few battles ago when one of your favorite bands lost.
Guess what....the fate of the free world does not rest upon the outcome of CF Battle of the Bands. We are doing this for fun, to talk about music, for people to listen to bands they might not have listened to otherwise. If you have a problem dont participate.

I find it really funny how in the last few days some people have come out with statements which basically say that if you like this band you have horrible taste, or if you dont like that band you have horrible taste, and that their band is objectively the best. And then everyone disagrees with them. Which proves that no one here has the official chart from God ranking the top 10 bands of all time. Sorry if that us what you guys were looking for.

Dont dispute tastes. Its pointless. Its like arguing that chocolate is better than vanilla. People's ears as well as taste buds are tuned different, that is how it is.

And P.S. I dont "know" who is going to win. I'm pushing for Zeppelin all the way now. In fact of the 4 bands left U2 is ranked last in my opinion.

Well spoken, ps!! It's a blessable post...And my exact sentiments as well. Plus the fact that U2 and Pink Floyd are once again in the final four backs up the fact that there are people here who like the music that they have released. ]

Just as an aside, a radio station here in Sydney are doing something very similar to us in a "Rock Showdown" knockout. And there is a heap of subjectivity in those polls...just as I type I discover that the RHCP beat Zep in the latest battle. Have a look at how the votes have gone in that poll here:

http://www.mrock.com.au/promo/rockshowdown/index.php

Most interesting results: Offspring def. the Stones, Jet def. G n' R, plus no Beatles at all in the poll...

Ouch!!!!!!!!
Living End defeated Pink Floyd???? Who is Living End????
Foo Fighters beat Jimi Hendrix??? What???

Well at least we can be confident that in our poll here, at least the brackets have gone in a more or less sensible fashion!!

The tourney that you linked to is totally dominated by pop rock bands that nobody will remember in 10 years.

Oooh thanks for the blessings!! :)

The Living End are an Aussie band - not much of a comparison I could do with any US bands, although their lead guitarist is almost a clone of Brian Setzer, and very good as well. Good band, but nowhere near the calibre of PF. And the demographic of the station is around the 20-30 age bracket, so they vote on what they like of current bands, which doesn't really surprise me all that much.

So what exactly is the point of these 'Battle of the Bands'? Purely to see who is the most popular and not neccesarily the most talented? A don't think a lot of people realise this hence the recent agro.
