Trump-Endorsed Candidate Backs Banning Birth Control

Donald Trump’s pick for a Michigan state Senate seat is promising to ban all birth control if she gets the chance.

“I guess we have to ask ourselves, would that ever come to a vote in the Michigan state legislature? And if it should, I would have to side with it should not be legal,” Republican Jacky Eubanks said in a recent interviewwith the site Church Militant.

“People believe that birth control — it’s better, like you said, oh, because then you won’t get pregnant and you won’t need to have an abortion,” she added. “But I think it gives people the false sense of security that they can have consequence-free sex, and that’s not true and that’s not correct. Sex ought to be between one man and one woman in the confines of marriage.”

FYI, to outlaw birth control, the GOP would have to overturn Griswold v Connecticut (1965), the Roe v Wade precedent that established the right to privacy... Just in case anyone thought the GOP would stop at abortion...

Thoughts?

Really not news worthy she is Catholic. All professed Catholics should feel the same way. The surprising thing is she actually is a true Catholic. Blessings

Just like all professed Jews feel the same way about bacon. It should not be legal for anyone to possess or consume it.

(Staff Edit) but:
1.) Was candidate just talking about their own personal ideals, maybe just tossing things out, or is it something they're actively campaigning on?
2.) Did they win the primary? Outlawing non-abortion non-infanticide birth control methods isn't a popular opinion in the Party & most would stand against it. A candidate campaigning on this would be unlikely to win the primary.
3.) Even if the candidate did get elected, a bill w/ this would never become law b/c it's objected by the majority in the Party & by the opposing Party.

Yeah, I'm not spotting a GOP trend for banning birth control here.
Wrong. I am against banning birth control w/ the exception of abortion/infanticide. Tho thx for admitting that's what it is.

Just because one candidate supports something doesn't mean the whole party does. This kind of rhetoric is why the country is so divided as is

First of all, I specified "candidate" in the title, and second, in another thread (which has since been closed) I pointed out that an GOP candidate for Senate from Arizona was campaigning on the same platform... the news was dismissed along the lines of "well, he's the only one..."

I was posting in response to the OP, not to you, if that clarifies things.

Yeah you may have specified "candidate" in the title, but then in your OP you said:

You are making a correlation between one candidate and the party as a whole. Thanks

Funny how the party that is supposed to be about personal freedom steps on it again. Or I should say this Trump endorsed arty member. I'm sure the group on the right that believes in getting the government out of our lives won't support something like this. Only the religious right.

I heard this. I don't think it was even a week after the "leak" and it wasn't the Candidate you're mentioning.

I don't think it's just me but I've known for years that some Pro-Lifers were not only against abortion but birth control as well. The birth control issue was just more low key or in some instances put on the back burner but it was always there. I'm not surprised though. I do wonder if they're considering viagra, cialis, and other ED's to be a part of that hmmmm...

Maybe some people want to go back to the days when a dad would sell his daughter's virtue to the best candidate. The dowry being contingent upon the wife to be being a virgin. You know, back when America was great.

The idea is growing... First Arizona, now Michigan.

They may be quietly considering it in Kansas already... just waiting to see how it flies in the other states first.

Oh, no, no, no... those are for men, and more importantly, they're to encourage men to have sex... for procreation, of course.

If a prescription wasn't required, they'd be handing them out in the churches...

Well, keep in mind it's the standard in the Catholic Church to be against both abortion and birth control. There are plenty of liberal Catholics, but they're still under some pressure from the Church. Catholics in the GOP are likely to follow the Church's teachings on the matter.

More of the same 'ol thing rather than a current trend.

Agreed. There's no public support or political will to do this outside of him.

Democratic Catholics -- most notably President Biden and House Speaker Pelosi -- seem to handle the pressure effortlessly.

It's only "pressure" if you resist.

A majority of women use contraceptives. According to the CDC: 65% of women of child bearing age (15-49) used them during 2015-2017. Am not sure there will be enough votes to support banning birth control pills or other forms of contraception. People should be able to practice abstinence when not wanting to make a baby, but many choose to use contraceptives instead.
