Day is done, but love unfailing
Dwells ever here;
Shadows fall, but hope prevailing,
Calms ev'ry fear.
Loving Father, none forsaking,
Take our hearts, of love's own making,
Watch our sleeping, guard our waking,
Be always near.

Dark descends, but light unending
Shines through our night;
You are with us, ever lending
New strength to sight:
One in love, your truth confessing,
One in hope of heaven's blessing,
May we see, in love's possessing,
Love's endless light!

Eyes will close, but you, unsleeping,
Watch by our side;
Death may come, in love's safekeeping
Still we abide.
God of love, all evil quelling,
Sin forgiving, fear dispelling,
Stay with us, our hearts indwelling,
This eventide.
Thank you for the words :)
A lovely prayer;
God bless my dear friends,
Grant us all blessed sleep tonight in Jesus's precious name.

It's one of the most beautiful hymns sung during compline/evening prayer - set to a very familiar tune! :)

Photograph was taken at sunset from a vantage point at Barr Beacon on the edge of Walsall, overlooking the town with views across the Black Country towards the Wrekin and the Shropshire Hills.

I think the word is stained glass, not glasspainting :D

And good night friends.
Yes I think you are right, it will be stained glass.
Goodnight and God bless, it has been a lovely day today with a beautiful sunset :)

Last night,for the first time, I did the modern version of Night Prayer with a friend over the telephone.

We lit candles and opened our prayers asking God to grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end to the day.

We prayed acknowledging our sins, the things we had done, and failed to do that day, and received our Lord’s forgiveness. We read the words of a short hymn asking God to watch over us and protect us as we sleep during the night.

We read through a short reading from scripture (Jeremiah 14:9) including a text from the psalms (Psalms 4:1-8), promising God’s protection for those who put their trust in Him.

We prayed the gospel canticle (Nunc Dimmitis), taken from Luke 2:29-32 and continued with personal prayers of intercession, for one another, for our friends, our loved ones, and asked God to provide for us with our own needs and circumstances. We continued by sharing words of affirmation and encouragement.

We followed with the Lords prayer, the conclusion (taken from Psalms 4:8) and final words of blessing taken from Numbers 6:24-26.

Immediately following Night Prayer, I went to bed, my head hit the pillow, and I found myself talking quietly to the Lord before drifting off to sleep and having a most peaceful night, remembering the wonderful promise of Christ in Matthew 11:28-30.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

I love the way Night Prayer follows a sensible structure but yet can be adapted for so many different contexts and situations. It can be prayed silently alone from a book. It can be shared with a friend over a telephone, or with a group of friends over zoom or skype. It can be read aloud, read silently, recited by a choir, sung in plainchant. Prayers of intercession can be tailored to meet the needs of the group and people can be free to pray in the way that is most natural and comfortable for them. Whether you are a traditionalist, used to genuflecting or making the sign of the cross, whether you are a charismatic who is more used to spontaneity in prayer and intercession, Night Prayer is a beautiful way of ending our day and committing ourselves to the Lord.

That is so good to read, I love to join in your night time meditations.

Goodnight and God bless to all my friends.
In the words of Julian of Norwich:
"“All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.”
May the peace of the Lord always be with you.
