I am not feeling well and conventional doctors say nothing is wrong when I know something is. So, I made an appointment with a holistic doctor because they get to the root of the problem. Only thing is he uses Reiki, Kineisiology, energy healing, etc. I was raised that some of these rituals are satanic or witchcraft. Believe me, I am reluctant to go but I am sick of having this sickness that no one seems to know. I don't want it to worsen. I pray to God to heal me soon. I cry everyday because I am in pain and desperate. What are your views on these doctors? Is it okay to go? What would you do? Your views/ experiences?

The problem with those doctors is that they don't work. At most you may get a bit of a placebo effect. If you're feeling bad and your doctor tells you that there's nothing wrong with you, you keep feeling bad. But if you're feeling bad and some weird guy performs some weird ritual that is supposed to cure you, you might start feeling better, even if the ritual itself doesn't do anything. Just the fact that the guy believes you, claims to know what will cure you, etc, is enough to start feeling better in some cases. That's a well documented phenomenon.

My advice? If conventional doctors say that there is nothing wrong with you, but you keep feeling sick, try making an appointment with a proper psychologist. There's a good chance that issues like anxiety are causing the bad feelings.

What does *God* say that they are?

I don't know. I don't think nothing in the Bible states it's wrong. Christians vary on whether certain rituals are right or wrong. Some think homeopathy is evil, others think it's okay. That's why I'm confused.

Thanks for the reply. I've been to a psychologist. But, my physical symptoms are so painful that I know it's not just anxiety.

There are two reasons that treatments are called "alternative medicine" either they have not been been proven to work or they have been proven not to work.

Do you know what alternative medicine that has been proven is called? Medicine.

Okay, that's a thought. But, even some regular non-alternative medicine doesn't work. Certain medicines work for some and not others.

There's your answer. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, but if you have reason to believe it's Satanic and witchcraft, then you should investigate it for yourself. God does not bring confusion. People do.

Why do you think it's wasting money? Have you been to one or do you stick with regular doctors?
I am a regular doctor. I've researched them a fair bit, for conversations like this one. They're a waste of money because they don't do anything.

There can be a place for alternative medicine -- but preventative measures are the key. I often feel that conventional doctors are all about money rather than healing. I tell my doctor that I want my treatment to NOT include too many prescriptions. He seems to be working with me. Rather than a prescription for high cholesterol, he recommended niacin. For high triclycerides, he recommended fish oil.

Good health is much about common sense. We all know to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, not too much meat. A modest amount of exercise is good and by all means loving positive thinking. I'm a firm believer in empowering myself rather than depending on a doctor or someone else in doing all the work. Yes, see a medical professional but work on your good health yourself.

I actually had no idea who said that first as I have seen it bouncing around unattributed for some time now. Should have done my due diligence.

Mia culpa.

You are in pain, the conventional doctors can't or won't help you, you need to do what you feel is the next appropriate step in managing your health. Pray to God, ask His guidance, and do what you feel you need to do. I personally don't think homeopathy is evil or wrong. It is using natural methods to treat our bodies instead of poisoning ourselves with a bunch of pills with a list of side effects that are worse than the condition we are trying to treat.

Sorry you are experiencing this pain - I will keep you in my prayers!

Its only wrong because it's ineffective quackery.

Okay. Thank you. Do you know anything about status migraines?
That must be hard for you right now. My sympathies. I hope you'll be able to pull through and that your migraine will subside. Have you seen a neurologist already? If not, that might be a good idea.

A friend of mine has migraines. She tried a whole bunch of alternative "medicine", none of it worked. She got some pain killers from her doctor that worked, but those make her groggy and depressed, rather than the happy self she normally is. They can disable her for days, and get worse when she is stressed. I cannot picture what you must be going through at present.

Medical science has no answer to migraines yet as far as I know. We don't know why people get migraines, although there seem to be a number of good research directions, and treatments is therefore reduced to managing the pain and nausea.

However, and this is important, alternative practitioners like naturopaths or homeopaths also have no clue on why migraines occur. Their whole holistic schtick is just meaningless phraseology. If they tell you that they look at the whole body, while medical doctors only treat the symptoms, they are lying. However, if you decide to go to someone, I'd recommend going to a naturopath, acupuncturist or nutritionist. Not because I think that they have a cure, but because at the least they will give you treatments with actual substances in them, so at least there is a chance that these treatments might work. As opposed to homeopaths, who will basically give you water, or reiki or energy healers who will just wave their hands over your body. Don't believe that the treatments they offer cannot have side effects. They can, just as any other treatment.

Okay. Thank you. Do you know anything about status migraines?

If you have status migrainosus then you do have something physically wrong. The current thinking is it's a malfunction in part of the brain. Overactive nerve cells cause cerebral blood vessels to dilate. There's also a release of various substances causing severe pain, nausea, and vomiting. There is probably an associated abnormality with the neurotransmitters controlling mood, attention, and sleep, because these functions are also affected. Treating it can be difficult. Status migrainosus is sometimes related to overuse of migraine medication, so it's reasonable to try non-drug treatments. Homeopathic medicines are placebos, since they are essentially just overpriced water. Have your doctors ever mentioned biofeedback? You may be able to desensitize the overactive neurons that trigger the symptoms. Kind of a reprogramming of abnormal brain circuitry. Do some internet research. It can work, and it's not hocus-pocus.

Best of luck, and I really hope you can find relief.
