So, what I've learned from the past few posts is that God is omnipotent, except when he could be saving souls.

I would say that God is omnipotent, except when fundies don't want him to be.

Another thing that is odd is that while AV and I agreed that an omnimax being's existence would be illogical, he and other Christians are somehow able to apply logical descriptors, limitations, and feelings to it.

Don't take AV as any kind of intellectual authority on Christian thought.

It's been my observation that
those who pray for healing do so PLUS seeking the best health care available to them.

It goes something like this:
Prayer request: "Mama just got pancreatic cancer. We're taking her to Stanford.
They have one of the best cancer treating hospitals around.
Would you pray that god gives insight, to the doctors so mama gets the best care?"

Congregation: "We'll keep her in our prayers."

... two weeks later.
Prayer request: "Mama started chemotherapy last week. She's real sick.
Please pray that she feels better, in between her chemo treatments."

...two weeks later.
Prayer request: "The doctors say mama isn't going to make it. They've done everything they can do.
They told us to take mama home and call hospice.
Please pray that her family has the strength to deal with this."

...one week later.
"Mama passed away last night. Please pray for dad, as he's taking this real hard.
This must have been god's will. I guess he needed her more than we did."
None, & I mean none of the above, had anything to do with 'God's healing Will', whatsoever.

As a passionate Fundamental christian, that scenario
is another :( reason why I rarely, if ever, attend church anymore.

The above scenarios are unnecessary, tragic, & plain sad!

Don't worry. I consider AV neither an authority nor an intellectual.

That is, of course, your prerogative.

Well, after all, AV1611VET, denies being Homo sapiens.
Homo is latin for man, and I don't think he denies being a man. (I could be wrong.) If he doesn't, then he must object to "sapiens", which my Latin-English dictionary translates, as "wise, sensible, judicious". I am willing to admit that he is none of those things, especially as he is so positive.

Of course, he may be using the word in some sense that no one else in the world uses it. He often does that, redefining words so as to confuse those innocents who have not yet come to realize that he is not, by his own insistence, wise, sensible, or judicious.

Furthermore, if "Goddidit" is such a great answer, why bother going to the doctor for your ills? Obviously God meant for you to contract the disease, and it is God's job to heal you. By going to the doctor you are taking the power out of God's hands and showing you don't really trust him to heal you. Plus, many of the medicines you take were made with the help of our understanding of evolution (Oh noes!).
I had a similar thought when the former pope, Karol Woytila was very ill and soon to die. Although he has near 1 billion catholics praying for him, although, he, as the highest pontif must certainly atrad-ct the attention of his god, went to the best hospital of Italy, and hired the best surgeon team of Italy.

Mind, this is of course what I would do if I were ill and had the money. But the pope? Can't he really rely on the prayers of his flock? Can't he really rely on an intervention of his god? Who does he trust most, god or the sientists?

Didn't Jesus tell us we need doctors?

Luke 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

Please answer this -- preferably with only a YES or NO.

And speaking of Luke, here's a simple Bible question:

What does the Bible refer to Luke as?

You can ignore this post, like everyone else does -- and, unfortunately, I expect you to; but one thing you won't do, is fool us into feeling guilty that we go to doctors.

Jesus also gave us such pearls as "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?", so I think we can take anything he had to say with a pinch of salt. Bloody idiot about sums him up.

No, what we want to know is why a billion people praying for the pope doesn't work. Could it be that no-one is listening to those prayers? Could it be that there is no-one listening to anyone's prayers anywhere and you all secretly know it, even the bloody pope, which is why he seeks out the best medical care science can offer?

Quote mining your own bible, you are.
Jesus is there speaking by metaphore or by analogy.

Oh, I see -- it's a metaphor.

So we shouldn't go to the doctor because Jesus was just speaking metaphorically in this passage?

I have a feeling that interpreting the Bible metaphorically is dangerous -- especially if you guys are doing it.

(And what happened to my question about Luke? or did you take that as rhetoric?)

He who? the Pope?

I'll bet he can do something most people won't -- both.

(My question about Luke didn't scare you away, did it? or are you waiting for someone else to answer it?)
