I repeat (for the third time) - If you don't like this thread, don't read it.

Poking fun at ourselves is better than the hard-nosed approach of getting angry at one another, e. I am afraid you and I have entered that area of doubtful disputations and quarreling and are getting nowhere.

You post as you see fit and I will do the same, but I feel we are wasting time exchanging barbs with each other.

Buh-bye.

That's a cop out. If you're offending just for the sake of offending, then stop. And poking fun at ourselves, and poking fun at others are two different things. And honestly it now seems that you aren't poking fun at yourself, but making fun of those who do these. So instead of making the reader the problem, maybe take a look at why people are feeling like this, and take a bit of responsibility yourself.

This is exactly how I feel about this entire thread...I have felt from the beginning that this "poking fun" was done maliciously and I am excersising my free speech by saying so. This thread has been offensive and hurtful.

Dear e., S., s., and Q.:

Gosh, guys. I am sorry. I am laughing at myself, too, BTW, but you are probably right. I am apparently touching an open nerve. Sorry if I hurt any feelings. I do not want to do that.

However, if I may say so, I do feel you are being a bit thin-skinned about all of this and are feeling, I suppose, that I am attacking you personally. That is not the case (I don't even know you) and I do feel you have taken liberty in unfairly judging my motives. Some have enjoyed the posts and I have noticed that the thread is getting a lot of views, so apparently, not everyone sees things like you do.

I would like to remind you that you came onto this thread of your own free choice. No one forced you to read any of my posts.

But in the interest of maintaining the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace, I will bid this thread a fond farewell. I know you are relieved.

Now on to more profitable things.

Jim

nope Jim, I have no problem with you. I dislike the attitude that says "If you don't like it leave", as it takes no responsibility for the cause of the dislike. If I disagreed with your definition, I'd tell you, but some may not. I think as a Christian, it should cause concern when jokes are injuring other Christians, in the same way I'd be concerned if someone was joking with my son and it was hurting him. Granted you can't please all at all times, but don't offend just to offend. And to assume that because a thread is viewed a lot that that then makes it ok is not a fair statement.

You are assuming, S., that my motives were malicious. They were not. In every post there was an attempt at humor and nothing was said that has not been said or thought by every Charismatic believer before. I felt that by poking fun at some of the things we do would lighten the debates some. I see that is not the case and personally I think we take ourselves far more seriously than we should.

I do feel bullied, however, by more serious-minded types and have agreed to stop posting here, although I feel that I have a perfect right to do so. So why not put down your hammer, S. I get the message (I just don’t agree with you).

Nope, I'm not assuming anything about your motives. Again, if someone was joking, and my son was being hurt from it, I would ask them to stop. That in no way implies that I though they were trying to hurt my son, as they very much may not have been. Let me give you a real story to express my point. A girl I heard of got a throat infection, and ended up having her legs amputated because of it. She was in a comma for a while, and now stays in a care home. My friend saw her dad, and he was looking sad, and he said "Cheer up, it's not like you've lost a leg". My friends motive was to be funny, and he honestly didn't think about what happened. To tell him not to make jokes like that doesn't question his motive. If he was to say "I can make any joke I want, it's a free country", then I'd think his attitude was wrong, even though his joking attitude was and is fine. My issue is when people express they are getting offended, then to continue to post because it's your right isn't a great attitude.

Jim, it is not bullying to say your words and comments were becoming hurtful. You do have the right to post here and just as you have asked that the hammer be put down, we ask you to put your knife down. It serves no purpose to continue cutting on a bleeding wound.

Since you've stated that you would no longer be adding to the list, and I appreciate that, I've gone ahead and closed the thread so no one else will add to it.
