  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God learning about humans

Some Christians believe that god came in the form of Jesus in order to learn about us, in order to relate to us, in order to understand us so that he could know sin and defeat it on it's terms.

Since some Christians feel that God sometimes learns about humans and his omni characteristics cause him to need to learn about us I wanted to provide a different situation and see what you all thought.

What if when we all stand before the throne and he begins to do what he's always planned to do, the first person approaches and he opens the great book and he begins to consider and he makes his judgement and he motions for an angel to take the man and we see the fiery chasm of hell open and the angel begins to cast the screaming human into the fire roaring below what if humanity cannot stand what is about to happen and people, millions of people run and try to help the poor man, try to stop the angel from setting the man on fire... is it possible that god would learn from this?

Is it possible that god would learn that he was wrong for this?

If god learns things about us, is the pain that he inflicts upon us one of those things?

I've seen several of your posts on here and I'm not sure if you are trying to bait people into ridiculous arguments or if you are legitimate. Regardless, I'm going to bite.

God is infallible, he is not, was not and never can be wrong.

God is omnipresent. He doesn't need to "walk a mile in our shoes." How vein a thought that the creator of all life and matter would need to do this.

Christ was sent to the world to A - Save us (sinners). B - Teach us.

God, by definition, is incapable of learning.

You cannot learn if you know everything as there is nothing that remains unknown that may be learned.

And yes, this means that God is not "all powerful" since He cannot learn.

He also cannot guess, or lie, or make a copy of Himself, or create a rock so big He cannot lift it, or microwave a burrito so hot He cannot eat it.

God can't learn, so the thread is moot.

Yeah I can see the simplicity in that concept but some Christians do feel that there are things that he seeks to understand. Some Christians do feel like god did not actually come down to earth to see what the meaning behind the voice of Able's blood meant even though that's what the book says, but some Christians do feel like god can learn. God asked Adam where he was. The bible actually says god went down to the garden to see what had happened. I can't find the verse at the moment but there is a verse (I think it's in Isaiah) that says that god did not know the isrealites would sin as they did. The bible says God regretted making man in Gen 6.6 that indicates at least some amount of learning on his part. '

There are Christians who believe that God is omniscient but that he does not know things that don't exist, such as what we will do before we do it.

Christians who believe this junk are simply wrong. Just what is the purpose of this thread?

How boring it must bad to be god, to know all there will ever be to know, to have been everywhere that could be and to still be everywhere. Progress is impossible because you are already perfect. Nothing is a challenge. I would imagine that even the most depressed person feels that their life has more meaning than god could. Perhaps, rather than god giving humans meaning to their lives, we give god a meaning and purpose to his existence.

Your implication is that God needed something, which is not the typical Christian view.

If god needed nothing, then he had no reason to make anything.

I believe the typical Christian view is that God didn't need to create us due to any lack in Him. Rather, He merely desires to love us and fellowship with us.

Then why does he give a crap if we believe in him, when he has no need of us, and can't be harmed by our lack of belief?

This might seem illogical if one was desiring love and communion for selfish reasons (for what THEY can get out of the relationship), but God loves us for UNSELFISH reasons. He created us for the unselfish reason of giving us the privilege of knowing and loving him.

The privilege? Sounds a bit self centered of god.

Self-centered? You are aware of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, are you not?

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

You're seemingly another that needs help... :D It is not God who needs to improve... it is YOU... you know man and by extension women... who love to rib us....

God I'm sure has enough to keep him busy in a universal sense and it is an absurd notion that he learns from us... or you... when it is us, people like me, who learn from him....

It is really amazing to me that some folks have such elitist arrogance as to possibly think we offer God anything.... You may not believe in God but if you are going to comment do so with some authority..... not some outrageous Friday afternoon whim.

Aloha..
