Many years ago that would have been the case. The rules today stipulate that if it goes off a skate it counts UNLESS the player makes a deliberate kicking motion

Gee...sort of reminds me of the 1999 Finals, Dallas vs. Buffalo in OT. Brett Hull scores the winner but there's controversy over the goal cos he had a foot in the crease - let's hope this doesn't cost the Flames the Cup like it did that year the Sabres !!:o
