  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

No, it's quite clear. I don't have any illusion that you tracked on the science.

It's pretty obvious. (Sorry if you thought you were fooling anyone).
:D:D:D The science didn't track so well for the global warming religionist who got caught in the unexpected ice down in Antarctica

Heads I win, tails you lose

Interesting. And do you call that scientific?

I don't see any numbers there. I don't see any discussion of salt and fresh water mixing in the Southern Ocean and I don't see any mention of stratospheric cooling due to ozone depletion.

Would you like some examples of what numbers look like and a few technical words so you can lard your post up to convince your fellow "skeptics" that you are all sciencey and stuff?

I'd be glad to talk science with you. Oh wait, that wouldn't be possible would it? You don't know any of the science here do you?

Oh, sorry!

Let me know when you get back from your first oceanographic cruise! (I got back from mine in April of 1991.)

So what we have here is a bunch of denialist arguing with a person who have credentials in a field, which is relevant with the subject matter that they are discussing.

Oh gee like I never saw that before.

My favorite is in the Creationism and Evolution section where people tell sfs he doesn't understand genetics.

Yeah, it really bites that the original 1911 Mawson expedition didn't encounter ice in Commonwealth Bay.

Evidently, summer was warmer in 1911.

Evidence? And the sea ice became packed due to winds, not temperature because it's always cold in Antarctica all the time.

You're not the first to notice that.

Of course not. People have been pointing out that denialists who cannot address the science can only talk about former Vice President Gore. Hannity did just that last night (along with talking about the Time magazine cover - apparently the extent of his knowledge on the subject).

I'm begging you! Please! YOU claimed that I agreed with something that I EXPLICITLY DO NOT AGREE WITH.

Don't ask him to stop. Report him for this behavior whenever he does it.

It seems that Nature's god took mercy on both the Russian and Chinese ships and freed them both from its icy grip.

Russian, Chinese ships escape Antarctic's icy grip
A shift in wind direction has freed a Russian-built research ship and a Chinese icebreaker that were both stuck trapped in Antarctic ice fields, according to Russian news media.

I thought it was the claim of some people in this thread that the temperature was the reason for the Academic being trapped in the ice, but here it notes, correctly, that it was the wind that cause the situation:
A shift in wind direction has freed a Russian-built research ship...

If you are unable to tell the difference between weather and climate that laughing smiley should be directed at yourself.

It's been my suspicion for some time now that people (usually on the far right) do not reject evolution and global warming out of a methodical evaluation of the evidence but rather because it conflicts with what they've sacralized. If one has, as some people on the right tend to, sacralize (and fetishize) a literal interpretation of religious creation stories as well as free market capitalism, then it is not surprising to see why these two are so vigorously attacked. Given that there really hasn't surfaced any private market solution to combat global warming but instead calls for lifestyle changes, carbon taxes, stricter regulation and more government spending, far-right dogmatists chose to reject its entirety altogether (or some modified version of it, such as rejecting the anthropogenic aspect of it). Whether these policies are terrible, good or otherwise is no reason to reject descriptive science.

Why do christians tend to label something a religion, when they want to give it a negative connotation, when they believe in religion themselves?
You know the old saying! If it walks like a duck...

That's what freed the ship. The discussion is about what trapped the ship, unexpected heavy ice
