  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One of my all time favorites is where John Abraham takes Christopher Monckton to task, critiquing one of his lectures. In Monckton's lecture he presents numerous citations of the scientific literature claiming it supports his GW skeptical assertions. The beauty of it is that Abraham shows Moncton's actual claim, check it against the cited literature and finds Monckton's claim to be false. But it doesn't end there, he writes the authors of the cited research, presents Monckton's claim and asks if Monckton is correct. In every case the authors of the research say the Monckton is misrepresenting their research. The only way to describe it is "priceless".

Abraham presentation

BTW, Monckton threatened to sue St. Thomas University, where Abraham teaches, over Abrahams rebuttal in the video. The university's response was, "just try it".

We plebeians are supposed to believe in GW, aren't we?

Even though there are some scientists who don't accept it?

Or does GW have 100% acceptance among the doctorates?

Global warming: 99% of scientists accept it, 1% reject it, therefore it must be wrong.

Creationism: 99% of scientists reject it, 1% accept it, therefore it must be right.

Interesting how people dismiss GW because some scientists don't accept it but, yet the very same people embrace creationism despite many scientists rejecting it. Seems like a no win situation.

Let me remind you that < 1% rejected Thalidomide, thank Heaven!

(I know, she didn't 'reject Thalidomide', per se and et cetera.)

I am not criticizing the fact that you are with the 1%, I am criticizing the fact that, in different issues, you are with the proportion that supports your belief, regardless if it is 99% or 1%.

In other words, for consistency, you shouldn't say you reject GW because 1% of scientists reject it, but because "science can take a hike".

Show me were 99% of scientists reject GAP Creationism.
It is time to produce some evidence to back up your wild claims.

Yeah, I was wrong, it's more like 99.85%. Here is the quote:

"Of the scientists and engineers in the United States, only about 5% are creationists, according to a 1991 Gallup poll (Robinson 1995, Witham 1997). However, this number includes those working in fields not related to life origins (such as computer scientists, mechanical engineers, etc.). Taking into account only those working in the relevant fields of earth and life sciences, there are about 480,000 scientists, but only about 700 believe in "creation-science" or consider it a valid theory (Robinson 1995). This means that less than 0.15 percent of relevant scientists believe in creationism. And that is just in the United States, which has more creationists than any other industrialized country. In other countries, the number of relevant scientists who accept creationism drops to less than one tenth of 1 percent."

And the source is actually a creationist website.

A peer review study published in PNAS performed a search and review of the published literature on climate science. The findings were that 97% to 98 % support AGW.

 -- That's 200-300% more than what Vet said:
