  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If no one (that believes in global warming) is doing anything about it why is it important? Merely observing and studying a 'problem' doesn't solve it. It seems to me that if enough scientists went to Congress and demanded action that action would be taken to solve this problem. Or am I being naive  (or perhaps sarcastic ;) )?

The problem right now is storm surges. What seems to be going to washington is more severe weather patterns. They may get the message if they look out their window every now and then. Of course they spend so much time underground in washington, they may not notice.

Most people do not reject global warming. Many reject the impact of industrialized nations on global warming. Part of the reason that many people question the effect of industrialized nations on global warming is because the issue is very intertwined with politics.

I think a lot of people see Japan, China and Europe ganging up on the United States. I think many people perceive them as asking us to clean up our country in an manner which would be detrimental to our economy. Added to this is a perceived rejection of capitalism over a more socialistic form of government.

The presentation of the issue at the international level could be improved to encourage change in the United States.

From a capitalistic perspective, I think there is a lot of money to be made changing our lifestyles to make less of an impact. Many companies are already getting rich going green.

From a Christian perspective we are charged by God to take care of our planet.

I do think the United States is a lot cleaner than it was decades ago. We no longer have the smog clouds we used to have in the 70's. But that's because we have moved our industry overseas. India and China now pump more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than we do.

We also provide much of the coal that is used by them as well. Unfortunately the pollution blows right back to us from China.

It is cleaner because there were sulfate emission restrictions mandated in the 1970's. Unfortunately, the scrubbers that remove sulfates do not remove CO2. Carbon dioxide has continued to rise on average 2 ppmv per year.

Global warming is a concpiracy to create work. If scientists would be alarmed, they would push the issue forth to ban industries!

"Conspiracy to create work", good one! :D Yeah, let's ban all industry and end civilization as we know it. Oh, wait, we can make them cleaner.

Funny. They have already been called alarmist, even though what they have predicted is falling short of what is being observed. I would hardly call that a conspiracy. Isn't it about time conservatives woke up to what is being observed instead of ideology?

Shrinking sea ice cover in the North Atlantic over the past three decades due to warming has led to a "dramatic" spike in deaths among seal pups, a new U.S. study says, offering a glimpse into a population issue while numbers are still abundant.

The study from Duke University in North Carolina warns climate change and disappearing sea ice off Canada's east coast could prove to be a more dire challenge for the animals going forward, with entire year-classes of seal pups dying as a result of diminished breeding spaces.
