Steps to reduce CO2 would reduce the sooty particulates too; two birds with one stone.
More logical to address the immediate first. It was done in North America 50 years ago. Of course everybody left to use China and the like for the cheap labour and no environmental laws and so it continues today. So who really benefits by creating environmental movements to shuffle our added tax money, pretending it cleans up their own mess, all while still getting around cleaning up their soot. Soot melts arctic ice quickly as any one who lives in snow country knows. Bare ground holds heat. But we'll continue destroying oceans and jungles/forests which do the work for free of removing CO2 in the name of useless corporate backed World Federations because of course there is no profit to be made in letting nature do it's own thing.

That's what you get when the jetstream collapses, the arctic air breaks out and turns europe and the USA into freezers.

If only there was some way to save the winter cold for summer cooling, and summer heat for winter heating.

Or maybe transer the summer heat of the southern hemisphere to the north, and vice versa.

While technically possible, it's not something that can be done with our current level of technology, and it would take ludicrous amounts of energy.

And yet ice harvested in the winter from lakes was used the following summer for cooling the old 'ice boxes', using low tech methods.

Actually looks like fun.

Us kids used to snitch ice chunks from the back of ice delivery trucks to slurp on hot summer days.

I'm sure you see the logistical problem of expanding that strategy on a worldwide scale. Also doesn't solve the winter side of the equation.

That's not what you suggested, though.

Summer is the best time to store heat for the winter. I think enhanced geothermal heating might be explored. Pump heat into the ground or some other large heat sink during the hot summer months and recover it in the winter.

Of course the conversation should be about conservation, insulation, and size, design, and orientation of buildings, as well as upgrading older buildings with more insulation, better windows, and more efficient water heaters.

Geothermal cooling can be enhanced wherever winter temps get really cold by 'injecting' cold air into the ground and recovering it in summer.
