  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Priests aren't funny about ghosts. Pentecostals are funny about ghosts.
So we should have a Ghostbusters movie with a Catholic, a Pentecostal, who else should be on the team? Is there room for a Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist or Hindu ghostbuster?

By your count, the Catholic ghostbuster can take the role of the straight man to the wild antics of the Pentecostal.

Catholics can be funny...

It's the curse of the remakes and a symptom of just how amazingly pathetic hollywood has become the past decade.

Instead of making something new, they take something old and make it bad.

Parts of my childhood that are victims of Hollywood:
Transformers (It was never great but it was neat for a kid, now it's just stupid and SPLOSIONS!!!! DID YOU SEE THE EXPLOSIONS? GOSH!)

GI Joe (Was always kinda silly, it didn't get any less silly on the big screen with actual actors, it got worse)

I think they are making a He-Man movie (Ok this was probably the goofiest thing I liked as a kid, with heroes like, "Moss-man" and villians like "Stinkor" I really don't know how Hollywood could make it any cringier)

They've started making movies out of old tv dramas, Miami Vice, 21 jump street, The A-Team, Charlies Angels, Beverly Hillbillies.. the list goes on and on and all it tells me is that Hollywood has no ideas of their own anymore.
So? How is that worse than making movies from novels and plays? When has Hollywood ever been original?

Not Hollywood, but the remake of Battlestar Gallatica was way above the original (well, up until the last season). And Katee Sackhoff did a damn fine job as Starbuck.

Good point, how many versions of the Wizard of Oz were there before the 1939 version, which is considered a classic? The silent era had a lot of adaptations of novels and plays.

Catholics can be funny, but not as funny as Pentecostals about ghosts. Catholics are more funny about rollerskating.

I'm reminded of an anime I saw a few episodes of that was slightly diverse in regards to the people fighting ghosts: Catholic priest, Buddhist monk and a Shinto priestess of sorts, along with an onmyouji, which could be construed as Daoist in nature, so that's 4 different religions right there, not to mention vague psychics who can set things on fire with their minds.

The problem one could find is the degree of saturation in the market: you usually would want there to be some space in between adaptations rather than just throwing darts at a board and hoping they hit.

I wonder if the Venom movie that's just announced will suffer from Spider-Man fatigue?

Why would a movie about Hillary Clinton suffer from Spider-man fatigue?
