• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know you guys would say this is a bad idea. But I wasn't as bad off as I am now before I took the meds. I'm tired of abusing prescription meds to get high. I just want to do what God would have me to do. It's going to be a long haul type thing but I'm going to do it. I would love some encouragment other then ppl telling me its a bad idea. I'm tired of them as a crutch and I just want off of them.

If this is what you think the Lord wants you to do then it's a good thing, I used to try and self medicate myself with street drugs and they never helped me. I don't have anything against prescription drugs but I don't think they are for everybody. Tests have shown on OCD patients that exposure therapy has about the same effectiveness rates as drugs, although they say both in combination is the most effective, I think it is possible to coup without the latter, at least for treating OCD.

It is good to consider and pray about the advice others give you. But if you are seeking the Lord's will in your life, you are the one He is going to tell what to do. So feel confident in that. God bless you for moving forward despite how afraid you must feel. I will be praying for you:)

I'm no doctor and am not qualified to give you medical advice. But here are some thoughts... you could start transitioning to natural supplements like GABA (Picamilon version as it crosses the blood brain barrier), Inositol, L-Theanine, and Magnesium as I hear they are very helpful towards treating OCD. Ofcourse you would need to check first to make sure none of these would be dangerous to take with your perscription meds. Or if you do decide to supplement once you're off any perscription meds making sure none of these interact bad when taken together if you choose to do that, (which I'm sure you probably know already). Maybe you could go from perscription meds, to supplements, to trying to taper down the supplements to see if you would be okay without them. If not, maybe you could re-increase the supplements to a safe level and / or try different supplements. If it gets really unmanageable you could always go back on the meds. I feel the same way, I hate to be on any medication. For me I like to try to keep things as natural as possible. It could be good to do a cleanse or drink a detox tea after you get off the prescription meds and before using natural supplements, these are just ideas you can research to see if they would work for you.
