Kroft: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Soros: That's right. Yes.

Kroft: That sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

Soros: Not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child, you don't, you don't see the connection. Uh, but it was, it created no problem at all.

Kroft: No feeling of guilt?

Soros: No.

Kroft: For example, "I'm Jewish, and here I am watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there." None of that?

Soros: Well, of course I could be on the other side, I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. Uh, but there was no sense that I shouldn't be there, because that was. Well actually, funny way, it's just like in markets, that if I weren't there, of course I wasn't doing it, but somebody else would be taking it away anyhow. And it was whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.

You wish to know how 14 year old George Soros relates to American politics. I don't know that the 14 year old George Soros related to American politics at all in the 1930s or 40's whenever exactly it was that George Soros attained the age of 14. The present George Soros' thoughts on his own past including the part of that past in which he had been 14 years old and what that reveals about his present character and his present philosophy is very much relevant to the American politics that he has involved himself in through political contributions and advocacy .

Additionally. The OP asked for opinions on Soros' interview. He did not specify that we must focus on the 14th year of Soros' life.

it reminded me of Eli Weisle's Night. He begs his father not to die, his father begs him to let him go, then he feels guilty because after his dad dies he feels relieved. The desire to live is a strong one, it seems to me he was just glad to be alive.

My advice to anyone that feels uncomfortable discussing George Soros' history or his involvement in present day politics or finds it irrelevant to one's understanding of American politics would be to just ignore this thread altogether and let those of us interested in such things continue to discuss them. .
