Based on what I'm hearing and reading, even from Democrats themselves, is they've been handling things really badly and are falling apart at the seams. MAGA loves what Newsome is doing and wants him to keep it up.
Right, Democrats have been sitting on their hands while Trump acts like his executive orders are royal decree. Newsome is drawing attention back to Trump and that he needs to be dealt with, plus adding in some humor. What’s not to like?

I like that Newsom has finally realized that if he can't beat Trump, he may as well join him.
It's nice to see Newsom agreeing with Trump. Now it's only a matter of time until the rest of them get on board.

Some people won’t get his jokes, but that’s OK, it’s not for everyone.

Gerrymandering the election map is a joke?

His Twitter feed, the topic of this thread, is full of in-jokes for the cool kids.
I'm glad cool kids use Twitter while in office. That didn't used to be the case not too long ago.
Carry on.....

What's it supposed to accomplish?
It illustrates the sheer awfulness of the daily UnPresidential Tweetings of the current "President."
It turns his awful social media attack strategy back on him.

MAGA are stuck. Fox are stuck. Every attack they try to make backfires spectacularly.

EG: In the piece above, one Fox propaganda agent actually said: "I don't know what he's trying to do but - it's childish!"
I think he's got it! That's the point! The difference? Trump does this for real - and can sound like a 5th grader when he does.

If Trump leaves office, Gavin can turn this off in a heartbeat. But we all know Trump. This IS him - and Fox and MAGA can't criticise Gavin without the same mud flinging back in their faces tenfold by the sheer ridiculous behaviour of the Orange man they support.

As funny as I personally find it from my POV - this thread is not about posting cheap satire.
It's a conversation about that satire, the causes of it.
I'm actually surprised it took this long for a governor like Gavin Newsom to click to this trick.

EG: This is how the President replied to Gavin.
Wow - "Newscum" - you came up with that on your own Mr President?

I imagine there's a lot more material to cover. For instance, there's the history of changing technological trends in how we receive our information - from how we all used to read far more (myself included) through to how superficial and glib we can be in our reading habits today.

Why read a whole book when there's a cheap meme we can swallow (hook line and sinker?)

Why read a whole book when I can ask for a 100 word summary on Chat GPT? Or watch a 10 minute YouTube which might be by an authorised expert - or might not be. Then I can go around and parrot 10 minutes! I mean - I devoted 10 minutes to that subject!

That's a LOT of attention in today's attention economy!

Why value expertise when my opinion - shouted loudly enough into the most concordant echo-chamber I can find - earns me LIKES?

Even more sinister - how can the poorer members of society have any time for being informed about all this when they have to work 2 jobs, never see their family or kids, and then get the Big Beautiful Bill taking away their healthcare? Then a man comes along that looks like a wrecking ball for the institutions that have made this working family so poor. He promised to 'drain the swamp'. He promised to do something with tariffs that might (in reality might not!) bring back jobs to working class Americans. So of course many in the rust belt voted for him. But did they actually have a clue what they were really voting for!?

But the main point? As the kids in the schoolyard say:- "He started it!"
Gavin is just replying in kind - and the moment the current administration moves on (assuming American democracy survives the current administration that is!) - Gavin can drop it. But the current President cannot - it's his entitled NPD.

It would behoove them to put all that energy into fixing their busted up party, instead of making things worse for themselves. Not that I'm complaining.

If the main point is a childish "He started it!", then you're proving that Newsome's antics are indeed childish. But maybe this is how he believes he will gain support for his party after it failed miserably in the last election, and it's misdeeds of the past 4 years and beyond are now being exposed.
And yes, I sincerely hope he continues. Maybe others in his party will do the same. Now that would be amusing!

Me too. In fact, it seems to qualify as "awesome"! But some are more easily impressed than the rest of us.

As you seem to have missed, I was addressing the end of post #28 where the poster was equating Newsom's tactics as being what "the kids in the schoolyard say". But hey, if that level of maturity is what the dems want to adopt in order to try to win elections, I can't wait to see their campaign ads next year. ^_^

Yes and that is meant to be a mockery of Trump's daily antics. Do you find them to be equally childish?

It is the same level of maturity the Republicans have adopted for the past 10 years.

Only, we know Newsom is only joking.

Trump doesn't do antics. He gets things done.

It is the same level of maturity the Republicans have adopted for the past 10 years.

Now, now. Just because Newsom is using that type of childish reasoning doesn't mean it works.

Only, we know Newsom is only joking.
Newsom's always been joking. That's why CA has out-of-control wildfires, sky-high gas prices and a debt to match. He needs to get serious, or get replaced.

That's the thing. While Trump has a strong sense of humor, he takes serious matters seriously. Newsom however just goofs around while he's goofing up.

Right. Otherwise, his "antics" have finally secured the southern border, brought Russia and Ukraine to the table to negotiate for peace, and is bringing back many jobs from overseas, not to mention eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat.
In contrast, we have Gavin Newsome posting jokes on Twitter, and those in his party are now hopeful that their party will be taken seriously again.
Grab me a tub of popcorn!

Right. That's why we have his Obamacare replacement, Mexico built and paid for the border wall, Hillary is behind bars and the 2020 election was proven a fraud and overturned. No antics. Just results.
Now, now. Just because Newsom is using that type of childish reasoning doesn't mean it works.
Again, he is mirroring Trump on Twitter. If you find Newsom's antics childish you are effectively saying you find Trump's to be childish.

The state GOP tried that. Twice. Lost both times. I think it's the Newsom haters that need to get serious if they ever hope to win over a majority of CA voters.

That's like saying if a child mocks his parents when they say something, it's the parent who is childish.

Meanwhile, the state burns and goes broke with Newsom in charge. So you win. Congrats!
