That's like saying if a child mocks his parents when they say something, it's the parent who is childish.
They are if they constantly behave childishly.

Speaking of childish... this back and forth is getting old. You just don't like seeing your own side's antics you've excused now being mirrored back at you.

That's the point.

Meanwhile, the state burns and goes broke with Newsom in charge. So you win. Congrats!
Just imagine how bad the GOP candidates gotta be to keep losing to a guy supposedly burning down and bankrupting his state.

Mirrored back? If Newsom wants to mirror what Trump has done, he can start by reigning in the excessive government spending in CA, and do something about the illegal aliens there that he gives sanctuary to instead of allowing them to riot and attack law enforcement. He could start deporting them instead.

Just imagine how bad the GOP candidates gotta be to keep losing to a guy supposedly burning down and bankrupting his state.
I'll take that as your admission that CA is rigged against Republicans in the elections.

He doesn’t ‘give them sanctuary’, we CA voters do. We the people of this state voted to not have our local law enforcement do the federal government’s job for them, using up our state and local resources to target people within our own communities. That is the will of the people of this state, not the governor.

And I’m pretty sure deportations are the federal government’s responsibility, not the CA governor but if you want him to do Trump’s job so bad you may just get your wish in a few years. Be patient.

I’ll take that as you continuing with this off topic rant.

Irony: the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.

Trump says these things unironically.
Newsom's team is saying these things ironically.

It's not surprising that many people's irony meters have broken in recent years. But if one can't tell the difference, one may need to invest in a replacement.

Quite the contrary, the irony is palpable. Not to mention laughable.

"We've hit rock bottom guys"

"What should we do about it?"

"Start digging a deeper hole!"

It would behoove them to put all that energy into fixing their busted up party, instead of making things worse for themselves. Not that I'm complaining.
This is part of that, not instead of that.

EG: I don't think Biden was elected because he was Biden - I think he was elected because he was the "Not Trump".

<< Aside >>

DEMOCRATS: However, as an Australian who thinks American healthcare is THE platform the democrats should run on - I see Bernie Sanders as pretty much fitting into our far right. Even the conservative Liberal-Nationals Coalition party here would not dare touch Australian Medicare - where every Australian can get free, lifesaving healthcare just for being a citizen.

If I were running Democrat policy - I would focus on UNIVERSAL government healthcare. On Nationalising over half the hospitals in America (as long as there are not reasons to nationalise more - 51% works here in Australia.)

EG: Thursday 2 weeks ago I had kidney stones. Wow the pain! I went into my local hospital and got a CT scan and pain meds for free. They looked after me overnight and the majority of the Friday - and then transferred me in an ambulance up to a larger hospital with a renal unit. Friday night I had a kidney stent inserted. After the procedure, they asked if my wife could collect me and take me home? I was nervous about my sometimes violent post-op nausea. I asked to stay the night - and they let me. The hospital was new, spacious, and that night almost empty. A public, government owned and operated hospital.

What did I pay for Thursday night to Saturday afternoon in hospital, with drugs and transport and surgery and post-op care?
Nothing. Zero. Nadda. Now THAT is healthcare!

And it covers ALL Australians at half the price of the USA system.
Elsewhere I have shown that this policy would save America about a TRILLION a year - maybe more.

Everyone covered, saving money - without ridiculous tax cuts to the rich or shoving 16 million people OFF healthcare in America - which will kill 50k extra Americans per year - as Trump's BBB did.

For the Democrats to do this will confront the silly fear Americans have of "Socialism" - as Australia is NOT a Socialist country.
We just have half-socialised medicine. Some choose to pay more for their choice of specialist - or champagne with dinner. But many just want the specialist on duty - and to get patched up and sent home ASAP.

There are things the market is good at - and things the government is good at.
One of them is reasonable healthcare at an affordable price.
Gavin Newsom should run on this!

Many Californians are leaving for Texas which has enormous tax breaks, which could one day come back to bite them. Right now they're trying to increase their share of the pie. But eventually - services must be paid for somehow.

They're leaving California because it's horrible place to live that just keeps getting worse. It used to be a paradise and they've brought it to ruin.

Not at all. We're pointing out that Gavin is the adult who has the ability to post like a regular, normal person.
Most of his posts are normal.

The thing that stands out?
When he posts abnormally - like Trump!
When he rants about something crazy in all caps!
This is genius in the current landscape.
It's a form of mass therapy.

I suppose if there's an earthquake that's also his fault? It's so cheap to poke at someone's preparedness for climate disasters when the MAGA crowd just turn their noses up at that 'climate stuff' and passed policies that see about 75% of your scientists getting ready to flee the country. And Europe and China have hundreds of millions ready to lure them overseas.

As the climate reality unfolds - to then start blaming victims of these natural disasters says more about deniers than the governor/s.

Anyway, if this were a card game, I'd "see" your Trump-as-Pope - and raise it with a Gav-as-Cap!

Pretty clever way to hold a mirror up to MAGA, and break with the usual discourse. MAGA knows it's just the same ridiculous tactics they use, but somehow they are now forced to pretend to be the respectability police.

I'm not sure it's exactly the right tactic to use, but the cultural moment were are in does demand we engage with the actual symbolism underlying the discourse. Something disruptive like this can force people to look past the appearances and see how outrage and spectacle are used to manipulate people, and perhaps that Newsom's point. Only time will tell.

I contributed an argument based on some statistically verifiable facts. You contributed... whatever the above is.

Also, who is the 'they' you keep blaming?

Some factors that make a place bad take decades.

EG: One of the worst things about California is there's no 'there' there. There's no properly sized CBD, just endless suburban sprawl. I became aware of this decades ago in a documentary called "California Dreaming" - way before my environmental and political "awakening". ("Wokening"? ;) )

A car-based bias goes way back to the days of "Who framed Roger Rabbit" - a humorous look at a serious subject - tearing up the cable car network. Big oil has had too much influence on town planning across America. Wall-to-wall suburbia has many harmful economic and health impacts. There's a reason people go on holidays to a city like Paris.

Zoning laws can be rewritten in one administration - but it takes decades to see the beneficial effects of New Urbanism and Ecocity design gradually creep through to real lifestyle benefits. The old housing stock must die of old age before it is replaced with the new.

That's decades! From memory - there was a Governator there for quite a while. I don't think he was a Democrat. (Even though he values democracy more than the current President.) So don't try and blame it all on Captain Gav - here's here to help! ;)

Cool! Then you should be able to cite some data for us, instead of what just sounds like bipartisan opinion.

I'll bet with zillions of illegals on the road.
You mean other human beings made in God's image that also just happen to be undocumented? People with families and sometimes American born children? These currently undocumented migrants are - statistically speaking - LESS likely than an American born citizen to commit crimes - and contribute more to the economy than they cost!

When people know the stats, hearing Trump whine about immigrants is like hearing him whine about a river of gold flowing into the country. And here I was with the impression that standard Republican economic doctrine is that human beings are an incredible economic asset to have?

What has Trump done to your party?

Maybe they should've illegally entered Australia instead. No, wait, Australia deports illegals too. Maybe the should've illegally entered a country that doesn't deport. Oops, no such country exists.

The democrats do not understand the right-wing game.

The right wing game is that the goal is for right-wing people to get as mad as possible. Then they win. The goal is also to make left-wing people a little angry. Then they also win.
