I know that being Fundamentalist does not have specifically to do with a particular denomination, and in fact we are a fairly diverse denominational group. Yet we are considered to be in a denominational sub-forum (which is fine with me). I think in all the other sub-forums in this category it is easy to distinguish who is a member and who is not because of their faith icon. Not so here. Has anyone ever suggested that a new "Fundie" icon be made available to add to our profiles? Would people here use that icon? Would regular posters here like to have that sort of thing to set us apart and make it easier to identify each other?

I like the idea as well. Perhaps a KJV bible, which signifies sola scripture as well as a strict adherence to the bible. I realize not 100% of Fundamentalist use the KJV, so this may be a problem. I guess it would look similar to the baptist icon

I was thinking a Bible similar to the Baptist icon as well. I see what you're saying about the KJV, but I think that particular version is too much of a hot topic here, and it would be best to not to go there. Otherwise we'll have Fundies refusing to use the icon because they don't want to be confused with the Onlyists.

I suggested this some time back on another forums meant for suggesting features and was ridiculed to the point that the mod had to tell people to cool it. It was interesting to see with what anger people who were not fundys met the suggestion for a fundy icon (I called it a Biblical Inerrancy Icon).

Needless to say, the powers that be poo-pooed the whole idea.

What about an icon that is something like a book with a cross upon it and SS (standing for Sola Scriptura) on eitherside of the cross below the horizontal line?

Or a Bible with a flame and on either side of the flame SS?

I don't think I like the imagery of a bible and flames could be interpreted as book burning.

I would think a bible with the words, "Bible says it, I believe it" one line above and one line below if there is room.

Thats a lot to put in such a small space, its amazing how small these icons are.

This is probably a little too simple, but maybe something along these lines?

Its certainly a start. Why don't you submit the idea, and once it gets approved, we can finalize something. I even like the SS, its a lot better than nothing.

Thanks. I did try it with the same Bible picture background as in the Baptist icon, but it's hard to do with letters because it's so small. Here's how it came out.

My other concern is how an icon would be incorporated. I don't really think it should be a denominational icon because that would mean that people would have to give up whatever icon they're using now. Not that I would have a problem with that personally, but I'm sure some would. I'm just trying to find a way that Fundies can be more easily identified.

In this day of changes why couldn't there be two faith icons? I'm sure the libs would come up with one to further define themselves (if ya saw this icon and a bapist icon ya'd know that person was a fundamentalist and if ya saw a rainbow [first thing that came to mind ;0] and a baptist icon you'd know they were lib baptist)

Also, the SS thing might have some other connotations~the guys at Stormfront might like to incorporate it :D

Yes, I was thinking that about the SS thing too.

I guess this could open a whole new issue since it's likely people would want more than just fundie vs. liberal icons. For instance, there are many conservatives that don't want to wear the title of Fundie because of the negative light we're nearly always cast in (media, etc.). Not everyone is willing to face that kind of persecution, especially when it's so unfounded. So they would probably like their own icon too. I'm sure the "non-unitarian universalists" (whatever that may be) would love their own too. (Hmmm, actually I'm starting to like this idea... It does make a clearer statement of what you believe in...)

Hitler's "SS" would be the first thing everyone thinks of when seeing a symbol here for us using "SS" to represent Sola Scriptura. So we should definitely remember that.

That said, i think it's a great idea to create a new icon for those who wish to be identified with the same loyalty that Yahshua and the Apostle had for Yah's Word.

A new Bible artwork for the new icon would be perfect. With no "SS" on the Bible. Otherwise many hostile type people will be accusing Fundamentalists of being like Nazis. ;)

Totally agree. Give me some ideas, and I'll see what I can design.
