I wasn't quite sure which forum was appropriate for this so here I am. I just today came across the concept of Fully Automated Luxury Communism. My first exposure was this opinion piece:

Opinion | The World Is a Mess. We Need Fully Automated Luxury Communism.

Then I found this article that explains it in a bit more detail:

Fully automated luxury communism

In a nutshell, this seems to be the idea that we carve out the robotics and computerization that is gaining speed in making human workers redundant and use the proceeds to better improve everyone's lives instead of just the lives of the wealthy.

I suspect the idea in its current form won't succeed because Americans have been brain washed since birth to abhor the word 'Communism'. But maybe something similar could become the ticket for humanity to actually enjoy all the luxury we have labored for generations to create.

A hundred million victims killed by Communist governments and countless prisoners played a role, too.

Unfortunately, many people in our country are too young to know how totalitarianism actually performed in the past when it had all power, and so they are susceptible to theories that talk of utopian societies instead of the real thing.

This is my vision for the future, but we’re a long way away.

And how many millions killed by democracies. You only illustrate why I said what I said.

China is moving towards capitalism and has been for a while. Vietnam as well.
And both are totalitarian regimes! No freedom. Anyone care about that, or is "moving towards" (?) capitalism supposed to wash all that away? Both are police states, friend.

And they write history to suit themselves (China) ie Tianemen Square???
They spy on their own people.
Plus the heart of man is sinful so there will always be those who prosper while others are in dire need.
Our only hope is in God through Jesus.

I never said they were good governments. Just that, over the decades, the communist regimes have been becoming less powerful and totalitarian. They still have a long way to go.

And America isn't a police state????

The idea of collecting information about everyone is what a police state is all about. Each and everyone of us carry a device around in our pockets that records everything we do, say and where we go. Why do you think the police are able to find so many 'suspects' so quickly these days?

They triangulate every phone in the area of the crime and go knocking on doors.

This really isn't the case, however. Whatever steps towards some sort of Capitalism we might point to, THEY are managed by the State with inhumane, dictatorial control just like everything else in those countries.

Progress is progress. Compare China's government now to how it was in the 50s and there is no comparison.

I'm not saying that it's good, just that it's better than it used to be.

Are there any examples of successful communism?
No but, there are (arguable) examples of successful Socialism. The U.S. employs a very mild form of Socialism. The countries of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway are more robustly Socialist. The are all however, more highly educated and do not have much of a welfare state. If such a thing were to work in the U.S., we'd have to fix the huge the problem relating to the amount of welfare recipients who do not maintain full employment.

Universal Basic Income (UBI) is an interesting new development in the conversation about AI and automation. It relates to the idea of Communism and the tech/manufacturing industry.

I think it relates more toward socialism than Communism but has interesting aspects which might make it work better with capitalism. It doesn't require government to operate any industry or corporation. And it utilizes things the government is good at...taxation and writing checks.

I think the only issue I would have is if the level of 'basic income' is set so low that the average person couldn't live a happy life on it, then it would never provide an adequate substitute for jobs lost through AI and automation.

Democracy is a form of government.
Communism is a form of economic structure.

You can have both and you can have neither.
