You can go through the rest of the Gospels and find people who were saved that Jesus never commanded to give anything up NOR asked them to follow him at all. Do you believe the story about the woman at the well? Do you think she rejected Jesus and he told her to GO and sin no more INSTEAD of giving up everything and following him? I bet if I wanted to waste a lot of time I could find dozens of people that Jesus never commanded to give up things or follow him and I bet MOST of them accepted Jesus.
