hello. as I go along in this journey of religion, I have stumbled into two churchs,
a Christian and a Methodist. There are things I like about both, and things I do not
like about both.
As of late, I have wanted to do more....first I should say for 20 years I was involved with
a volunteer social service group that helped people in time of need. I was always on call,
and several times, I was called and got off the grain combine to help someone.
I've seen many things, and so I have seen how the human heart is hurt. Many
people in the church have not seen this, and show up, sing, throw money in
the collection plate and once in a while maybe make a cake or something.

I feel for the forgotten, the old and the poor. What I would like to do, is maybe when
time allows, take one day and go to a couple of nursing homes, and do a mini-service.
I know i'm not a preacher, and not interested going down that path...but basicly
have small group that wants to gather, I would like to get a digital hymnal that would
provide the music, a short "preaching" how god loves them, then make saccramnts
available to them (they have new juice and bread in a prepackaged unit)...also have
a little pa system to make things easier for people. Then I would have time to
"visit".......from my experience, these people want to talk, or just visit...someone different
than the staff. I wouldn't want to preach, but just listen, and let them know god
loves them...I would also like to have a supply of little devotion books, such
as the upper room and our daily bread....I would also then like to hold some
bingo games...nothing big, candybars, personal things, etc.....
I would also like to consider a mini foodbank, clothes closet and furnature closet.
while we have a foodbank, they refuse to use available resources from the regional
foodbank. we could get food so much cheaper, and do more things, but no, too much
paperwork and work....I had worked with the regional foodbank before. sure some
work, but worth it.
I have kind of mentioned this, but wasn't well received.
I don't want to take over the pastors job, or saying they are not doing their
job, I just want to help a little.
Then, in the Methodist church, you have to "have permission" for everything.
I am starting to get the feeling of part of the churchs problem is too many
boss's.......committees, councils, etc.....too much "overhead".
To me, we need to focus on helping our fellow man......rather than all the
"other stuff".
I would consider being a "lay servant"......but here we go, you have to do this
this and this. I will go along with "required" training, but then appointment and
all that stuff.........I doubt that god ment to have all of this stuff, just to help
his people.
am I wrong.......or is this "normal" ?

thank you

I think you will find that in almost every church today. Keep in mind they must do risk assessment on everything as well. It is not that they don't don't want to do more to help others, they must always, (in todays world) take into account the amount of risk they take. People today will sue you over your shoes being the wrong for that day, or maybe you said hello in the wrong tone of voice.
If you really want to get out from behind all that, and take the risk on your self, then start looking for what you would need. With a little more info, and better of idea of the resources you have at hand, a plain would form in your mind. Then pray over it, do so with an open heart, and if HaShem wills it, then it will come to pass.
everything take time, and hard work. As I am sure you already know. I will add this to my pray list for you, that is the lest I can do.
