MSNBC is a travesty of news. Honestly I don't know how they remain in business. CNN is fine, just boring.

MSNBC is just a travesty, period. I don't consider them a news network. It's mostly left-wing commentators ranting, not reporting. (Especially Olbermann, Maddow, and Schults.)

I dislike Hannity as well.

I have ever since he lied about Obama by blatantly misrepresenting something Obama said.

It was despicable.
He made similar blatant misrepresentations of the speech in Cairo as well.

Only one worse than Hannity are the liberals like Colmes who ignore what is blatantly in front of their noses in order to defend their ideology.

Sometimes I think if we had a shred of decency we'd boycott FoxNews  The latest from our conservative news source...
Yes Jim.
I find their treatment of sexual issues like pornography, and the like, atrocious.
They are the 'red-blooded American-male' type 'Conservative'.
Not true Christians or true Conservatives.

For all its perceived flaws, the BBC does present the most varied amount of world news content, at least that I've come across so far. I appreciate having the most information available to wade through and follow up from other sources if necessary or if it's of interest.

SkyNews here follows the same format as FoxNews and I simply can't watch it. Hearing the same half dozen or so news items over and over is a waste of time when there is so much else going on in the world.

I just watch O'reilly. Thats it. Almost daily.
Occasionally I will watch Huckabee or Glen Beck and even more rarely some random story during the day.

I scan BBC, CNN, and Fox as well as yahoo news with my mail for the latest stories.
Occasionally I go to Townhall as well.

Personally, I don't care for Fox News, and the reason is that they are way too far right for my personal taste (then again, I am more moderate politically). They also get a little too giddy in their weekend shows. I mean, a little bit of goofing off is one thing, but I believe they carry it a bit too far, IMO.

HNN is about as balanced as they come. I don't see where they embrace any side. That's what I like about it, and the fact that they are very straightforward in their presentation. And they have their fun moments, as well.

I was in an orthodontists waiting room for about an hour this morning and they always have FoxNews on. The pretty blonde chick broadcaster didn't need to have a dress that was cut that low~guess that was the entertainment portion? Why do they feel they need to harlot out the women?

One problem I see with how we view the cable news stations is that we (generalization here - am referring to the viewing public) tend to confuse talk shows with the news. When Fox is reporting the news they're fine, they do a good job of straight up reporting.

But shows like the OReilly Factor, Hannity or Glen Beck aren't news shows. They're talk shows - and yes, for the most part the hosts have an agenda. Same goes for news vs talk shows on CNN or MSNBC

We've allowed the line between talk and news to be blurred to the point that all too often folks think that Sean Hannity (for example) is a news journalist. He isn't.

If you want to see a good political talk show - Fox does have one. Huckabee is excellent. He has folks from all over the political spectrum on his show and I've never seen him talk down to a guest or treat them with disrespect. Plus, he has a pretty good studio band.

that said - in regard to Fox peddling flesh, my husband and I often make jokes that Fox News must have stock in lip gloss manufacturing based on the way their female staff wear it. Sometimes I'm amazed I can see their faces at all for all the lights that reflect off their lips.

I agree. Talk shows are not journalism but rather talk shows with agenda. If I want to watch talk shows, I usually watch Fox, any of them even though some are not as good as the others.

The O'reilly Factor is a Journalistic News program.
It is not a straight reporting program, it is an analysis program.

Hannity is similar in that respect, but he is flat out biased and sometimes dishonest.
Colmes was the same way, just on the left and a little worse actually.

Beck is also an analyst.

Huckabee is a political talk show.

I use the internet for straight news.

One thing I did get a kick out of when I did watch Fox News (for some weird reason) is when they spelled Osama Bin Laden's name with a 'U' -- "Usama". Now I'm a little curious as to whether there's some sort of significance to that.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

(I hope this question isn't out of line.)

I remember those days. Seems to me, there was for at least several months a fair amount of inconsistency throughout the media regarding the spelling. I suspect there is some "wiggle room" in terms of rendering the spelling and pronunciation of his Arabic name in English. Eventually the collective media kind of "standardized" on "Osama."

I'll bet the "mainstream" media, esp. NBC and its subsidiaries, would have chosen otherwise, had they the prescience to foresee the potential confusion with their leg-tingling Dear Leader's name.

FOX likes to parade the honey pots on the tube. Again, it's not a huge issue and as a normal male I enjoy the view, but they could gain more respect if they showed less cleavage and thighs.

LOL! I'm really enjoying you euphemisms.

But I honestly don't like Fox (or CNN very much, but that's a separate thread). Rupert Murdoch is a Zionist and a pornographer (search for the article "Rupert Murdoch's Growing Porn Empire"). I believe in free speech, but at the same time its rediculous to think that Fox is some paragon of conservative values.

It's FOX NEWS that the thread deals with, not Murdock or other Fox channels.

It's common for Western journalists to wrestle with the appropriate spelling of Arabic names. When Khadaffi was big news, there were at least four different spellings tried out by the media (and for all I know, there is no consensus yet).

Personally, I don't care for Fox News, and the reason is that they are way too far right for my personal taste (then again, I am more moderate politically). I suppose, but have you tried to watch "Morning Joe" for more than a few minutes over on MSNBC? The other day, Mika tried for about ten minutes to tell one item of news while the three Marx Brothers absolutely refused to stop laughing at the cleverness of their side jokes. I finally gave up, and it had nothing to do with their political bias. IMO, the morning news shows want to seem lighthearted, which probably accounts for the banter on Fox--or on the Today show--but it is nothing compared to MSNBC's free-for-alls. And then when we come to the evening shows, MSNBC presents us with a sports reporter throwing objects at the screen and pretending to be a newsman while confining the day's news to which Fox News personality he hates the most. :sigh:
