  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was praying lastnight about some events that have happened in my life that has left me bitter, confused, and hurt. I thought I heard the Lord tell me that he would give me a dream. When I woke up this morning I couldn't remember anything that I had dreamed, so I thought I had heard wrong. But when I got to the yardsale this morning (because we were having a yardsale) I pulled out a tiny decorative fountain I had packed away a long while ago to get rid of. It is to be placed on a shelf and runs on batteries, the water trickles down three layers before hitting some rocks. Suddenly I remembered what I had dreamed...

In this dream I was giving my father this small fountain as a present. I was so ashamed to be giving him this present for various of reasons. First of all, it was not new but a used item. Secondly, my father is a single man living by himself and this is not the kind of present to be giving a man. Thirdly, it had all kinds of tiny rocks and they were tedious to maintain and got everywhere and my father would not care for an item that required his maintenance. And fourthly I thought that my father would believe himself as deserving of something better and more expensive. So all of this was running through my mind as I gave him the present. When he opened up the box and pulled it out his face lit up with the biggest genuine smile ever, and he had a light in his eyes as if the fountain interested or intrigued him.

I usually don't have any problem understanding my own dreams. But two different interpretations came into my understanding rather quickly, confusing me. The two versions are as different from each other as night is from day.

I would like to hear what someone else feels the interpretation might be. If you feel lead that you might be able to help please do not hesitate to post a reply. Thanks so much!

If I’m not mistaken, you feel rather inadequate and that you have too much “baggage” to offer the Lord any meaningful worship or service. But the Lord loves us and knows none of us have anything to offer him but our love. That is why Jesus died for us. Not to condemn us, but to justify us before the throne of God. Jesus didn’t come for the righteous. He came to die for sinners.

The water fountain is a type and shadow of yourself. It runs on limited power, has three layers that consists of your life- body, soul and spirit, it requires a lot of maintenance, which may also indicate you’re a little difficult to deal with at times, and you probably know this about yourself.

The only thing you and I can offer the Lord is ourselves... Our love. He’ll take us as we are if we put our lives on His altar. All we need is a willingness to serve God and to humble ourselves. Like the master potter, He first needs to crush the hard stiff clay into powder, add some water (work of the Holy Spirit) and knead it (trials and tribulations) so he can form us into whatever he wants us to be. This process is very painful for us, but the end result will be fellowship with God.

Many of the great men in the Bible were full of faults. Peter had a tendency to stick both feet in his mouth. David was a poor shepherd and the youngest of the brothers, which in those days meant he was a “nobody”. Moses was illiterate, Paul was arrogant and a murderer, Thomas was a doubter. Jacob was a mama’s boy. David was an adulterer and murderer, Joseph was a cocky little kid, etc.

But God looks at the heart, and he knows there’s nothing we can offer or do for Him, except our love and obedience.

You said you were bitter, confused, and hurting. I see your father's refreshing joyful surprise as how God views you and what you are able to "give/offer" Him during this temporary difficult trial you are having. The message of the dream is, you are still precious to Him in this current state, and you still delight Him....even when you "feel" small, not worthy of maintaining or caring about, and only running on batteries.... your still His beautiful daughter, whom He delights in.

Psalm 147:10-11
"His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in "his" unfailing love."
