• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should progressives and non-progressives have separate forums?

Splitting the forum is a very bad idea.

Again, this is merely your opinion. The fruit of the endeavor will determine if it is true or false.

I suspect that it will prove to be a good endeavor. For, where there is less antagonism there is more room for growth.

good question

One thing to keep in mind is that this forum is already set up as traditional/conservative (our doctrines are already listed).

So it may be easier to just have the progressives start up their own forum outside of this one.

Then again, I think it would be appropriate to go by seniority. Those who have been here the longest should be the ones to vote on who stays and who goes.

For those who seem to think it is viable and possible to blend the two into one forum: Do you honestly believe forums like Revival Sermons and Adventist Today could ever combine and there would be perfect harmony?

It would be like throwing a match on an open flame. It would never work. This is why those two forums are entirely separate.

People, this is not the end of the online world. The internet is full of forums geared to a specific segment of SDA's. I don't buy all of this pessimistic, doomsday talk. Life will go on and the world-wide church will not be 'marred' by what we do here in our own obscure corner of the internet world.

Good grief, let's get a little perspective here.

Woob,

It is just your opinion that the forum should be split. You're entitled to it, and so am I.

Splitting the forum is a very bad idea.

I have to ask why you feel this way because you know I value your opinion.

If people are truly miserable posting here, what is the point in trying to keep the appearance of togetherness when it's obviously not there.

We've had several people come to this forum and post just a few comments and end up leaving over the way they were treated.

Wouldn't you prefer a forum where the REAL Adventist message is discussed and presented?

I'd really like to know why you feel this way.

I just want to make it clear to people that know this poll exists, but don't vote, that it is final. When it ends in four days whatever the majority vote is will determine the fate of this forum.

If people come in here and say they didn't vote, therefore the poll shouldn't count, that's just going to be too bad. Four days is more than enough time to vote. And if people refuse to vote then that was their choice. They will have to deal with whatever outcome results from this.

Why do we always have to resort to cotton-pickin' labeling?!? Is your cause so weak that it can't stand on its own?

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is never wrong. We will just have to see where the fruit is when this is complete.
.

Righteousness by segregation is not a fruit of the Holy Spirit.

God loves even those who hate Him.

I never said God doesn't love these people.

You seem to be confused.

It's an issue of doing what is best for the people of this forum.

Obviously the fruit of our union is not testifying of the love of God, or manifesting the ways of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we need to split, because there are those of us in here that are quite tired of abusive progressives that have nothing better to do with their time than to try to indoctrinate us with their false ideas, and murmur and complain about the SDA church, Ellen White, and incessantly insult those that don't agree with them.

Sorry, but this is final. There is no turning back now. I've had enough.

Part of the problem is we have not voted our own forum-specific ban system. Two versions have been proposed in the wiki some time ago but no action was taken.

Essentially, the wiki process takes time. And every time a fight breaks out people abandon it and lose patience.

Tall, you annouonced you weren't going to vote anymore, no?

Both Woob and I said we would not be participating in wiki process. This is not a wiki vote, this is a vote from Erwin.

I am not participating in the wiki items because they take tons of time and I just don't have it. Every item has to be proposed, debated, formed into a workable poll, etc. And we have to keep moving people back to the process after each fight. We move in a couple days. so I just don't have time for all that.

I've had enough.

A. Both Woob and I did
B. That was in wiki votes. This is not a wiki vote, this is a vote from Erwin.

But Tall, here is something that I have a real problem with.

You and Woob BOTH voted for "stricter rules against personal attacks" to keep this forum together (I use that term lightly). I realize Woob has since changed his mind about not splitting.

Now neither one of you wants to help IMPLEMENT those rules?

I'm sorry, but that's not right.
