Hi there! My name is Abiel and I am an Envoy in The Salvation Army. My theology is basically Arminian, but theology isn't my speciality- I am currently studying for a Certificate in Theology with the University of Exeter (distance learning) in order to get up to speed. My real life ministry is about people, and I am not really interested in getting people to see things my way, I just want them to feel secure in Christ. I am also a part-time (secular) youth worker. I have two boys (11 and 8) and a dh, a dog and 2 fish. I like chocolate, purple and Star Trek.

Uhm, which God are we talking about? the Catholic one? The Baptist or Methodost one?...

Catholics and Baptists (as well as Methodists) worship the same God.*

*As do the Jews and Muslims, but that is a different thread :)

Also, could we have a little short introduction by the team members? Ya know - "Hi, I am so and so, I am a minister in such and such a church, ym main emphasis in ministering so far has be X, Y, and Z!"

Would be nice, since these people are supposed to council and minister to others around here! :)

That is reasonable :)

I am tall73, and I am a pastor in the Seventh-day Adventist church. I have been pastoring for around nine years, mainly in rural areas. I currently pastor three churches, which is not uncommon in areas with less population.

As a senior pastor you get to wear a lot of hats including:

- evangelism (public meetings, individual Bible studies, free market cell groups, door-to-door, etc.)
- preaching and teaching
- training
- counseling
- administration
- conflict resolution
- visitation
- assistance for needy
- Community service
- disaster response

I have also assisted with a prison ministry and a recovery program that one of our churches runs.

As for my theology, there is a lot to explain with Adventists, so you might check this link:

http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/fundamental/index.html

In this position, however, we are functioning more as a chaplain, and will work with folks where they are at.

I do think this is a good (and needed) thing here on CF.

My only question would be-- what of those of us who are currently mods, and are already recognized as "pastors" for CF? I would be interested in helping/working with the pastoral team, but I don't want to abandon the mods in the forums I am assigned to. Much of the time, I am called on more for support/input than actually issuing warnings/infractions.

Will those on the new Pastoral Team give input in handling reports--especially if they may know something about a situation that is not common knowledge? How exactly is this supposed to work?

You may want to check with P_G for details in your particular case. However, we are not going to be working reports. We may be called in to help with pressing ministry needs arising indirectly from a report, but we are not to be involved with the usual system so that people see us as pastoral and neutral in that regard. Teams could still theoretically ask you theological questions if they need your insights.

Since this is pastoral work we will have confidential information at times which should not enter a report.

But for more specifics check with P_G.

Some answers

First as for the name being blasphemous it is in no way an attempt to usurp the title of the Messiah. I AM the Alpha and Omega is a singular statement for surely G-d alone is the beginning and end of all things and all time. CF is in no way claiming divinity it is a name no more no less. In reality any name could be misconstrued.

The vision is that CF would start and end in ministry and encompass ministry and all the fruits that go therein. We hope that the formation of a team that does nothing but minister to the needs of people will help in that vision.

As for not publishing a list as yet this is because the team is still being formed as of this moment Feb. 20, 2007 at 15:15 EST the team is Tall73, Abiel and Imaniingod. I am the direct supervisor but working closely with my colleagues in Alpha.

The goal is to try and have as best representation of all denominations as we can. This may be difficult be we will continue to strive for that. These women and men will act as Chaplains and what that means is that they are going to try to be fairly flat theologically and offer what they can from a fairly broad based perspective rather than a narrow theological perspective.

Case in point I have myself extensive experience as part of the Chaplains office in a local prison. When I would meet with men cell to cell they might be Baptist or Catholic or perhaps nothing at all perhaps not Christian. What they did not need was for me to make them Messianic what they did need was some one who would listen to them and not care what they had done or what church they went to. They needed to be ministered to. And each person is quite different in their needs. One man might wish to confess to a murder and another simply weep that they could not hold their girlfriend in their arms. the job of Chaplain is to listen and to pray and to offer what comfort they can.

We certainly will encourage the Omega staff to write bio's and post them up and perhaps to write an occasional encouraging message to share with people.

I will again say that Omega is not like other teams they will not be doing regular staff actions. They may be called on to give opinions but thats about it.

This team is a work in progress and will develop as time goes on. We hope it becomes a resource and that it will affect lives in a positive and dynamic way. If even one person is helped by this then I would consider the effort a complete success.

CF has added a new ministry Team called Omega

It will be comprised of Ordained and Licensed Pastors and other recognized ministers who have volunteered their time to minister directly to the members and staff of Christian Forums.

This will be an evolving ministry and this team is charged with going out into forums and seeking out people who are hurting and in need and trying to bring some comfort to them through prayer and counseling. They will not be doing any regular moderator duties.

While no online ministry can take the place of a local minister or support group we feel that this will become a bridge between the two and help a lot of people currently not being reached.

Please keep this team in prayer and feel free to PM them they are here for you.

Blessings

It frightens me when people say this and are serious. It makes me think of all the other words or phrases that would mean we aren't allowed to use! After all claiming to be the beginning and the end was not the only thing God claimed to be. So if we rule out using alpha and omega FOR SEPERATE TEAMS then surely one must prohibit the use of alot of other phrases and words.

I think the idea is great and is to be applauded.
