Unfortunately it's true that some Christians, especially if holding to a particular view of the doctrine of Sola Fide, believe that the gospel/new covenant is meant to serve as some sort of carte blanc reprieve form the penalty of all sin past, present, and future, which it is not. And the early church and early fathers never believed or taught such a thing. OTOH, regardless of professed theolgy, I believe that most Christians actually live as if what they do, by and with the grace of God, counts.Most Christians I have run into believe it is some kind of justification to sin in some way.
