• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"Not to hand out punishments???" Que?

You really haven't paid attention to the Word of God. Seriously.

1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience' sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God's ministers attending continually to this very thing. --Romans 13

Since when has God become the leader of the U.S.A.? I don't see that in the Constitution anywhere.

There are still nine months to go. I'm sure I can say something that will annoy you more in that time...

Why would I? I don't believe in him, and I think most of what he's supposed to have written is morally reprehensible.

Who said anything about destroying? I'm not burning Bibles. I just think God hasn't said anything at all, to you or anyone else, and that, regardless, we shouldn't be looking to 2000+ year old writings to make decisions about government policy in these enlightened times. Sorry.

Shield is using Romans 13 to state that the US government is established by God, its authority is ordained by Him.

Of course, once Shield is reminded that the US government protects the rights of homosexuals, Muslims, Atheists, abortionists, and people who read Playboy, I think you'll find that claim of divine authority dissipate rather quickly.

Using Romans 13 to claim that the US has God's backing leads to one of two conclusions: Either God is a LOT more liberal than Christians like SoF would be comfortable with, or perhaps Paul had something else on his mind when he wrote that letter -- discouraging resistance to Roman authority, perhaps?

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the jury. The case of Samaria versus Jehovah set a legal precident central to the ruling of Roe versus Wade. I would now like to call Hosea to the witness stand.

"The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open." (Hosea 13:16)

To overturn the opinion regarding fetuses established by Roe v Wade, one must first overturn the Biblical view of fetuses set forth according to Samaria v Jehovah.

I rest my case.

Agreed.

The duty of the penal system is to protect the public, and perhaps also to allow reparation and reformation by those who have harmed others; it is not to hand out punishments

and, SoF, what exactly does the quoting of the verses in Romans 8 have to do with forcing morality on the populace? and where the US government, the state governments, the county governments and the city governments are required to enforce morality other than what is currently on the books?

Or are you confusing forcing with enforcing? The above verses say to follow the existing laws adn we have people in authority to ENFORCE the law. Not to force imagined laws that do not exist within the government.

Not anywhere in the above verses. You have quoted this same passage in another thread and even in there it has nothing to do with the OP. not one thing.

What the verses you quote do say is that the laws that are on the books are to be enforced. we are to obey the existing laws, not ones you want to have or would love to have.

only the real, not imagined, laws that are currently existing for the federal, state, county and city governments are to be enforced and obeyed.

And I do beleive for the most part, thsoe laws are being obeyed and when not, the police do enforce them IAW the above verses.

I trust this clears up your misunderstandings of the Word verses the laws within this country.

Dude, are you wearing sweatsocks with sandals? I can't take you seriously until you stop that ^_^

Aside from being a walking fashion disaster, I just realized I might actually be commiting a sin too. Wearing sandals is okay, of course, because Jesus wore them. However, sweat socks aren't mentioned anywhere in the Bible. That means mixing tube socks with sandals is unscriptural and therefore prohibited. Oh no, my socks are immoral! :swoon:

and... what are those tube socks made out of...I mean.. are they pure cotton? Or is there some mixing of materials there...? ...

not that I have any right to talk about your fashion sense..cause in real life ... I am wearing tube socks myself... white ones.. with black pants... it's okay though you can't see the socks cause I've got my feet up under the desk in my cube.. so people would have to LOOK to see my tube socks.

I've tried to be Levitically and Deutronomically obedient by not mixing fabrics. I managed to find pure cotton socks without any nylon or acrylic. The problem is I never could bring myself to give up elastic. To be Biblically compliant, I would have to walk around with droopy socks.
