I had my annual exam today and the obgyn said he felt "something" that shouldn't be. He wants me to get a pelvic ultrasound (sounds.... uncomfortable) to find out what it is. He called it a mass, which freaked me out, but he said not to worry until we know something. In the meantime, I'm worrying. Any prayers would be really appreciated.

Praying for you Sis Ultrasounds don't hurt honey, they are just sound waves. I've had many on my breast and there is no pain involved. They will probably put some gel on your stomach and then press this ultrasound device (like a wand) on your stomach and take pictures.

We all know that God can take this "mass" away from you. We will pray that by the time the ultrasound appointment comes around, it'll be gone, healed, nada...no more.

Praying for you too snoochface Ultrasounds don't hurt, they can be uncomfortable because you have to drink alot of water and then not pee I pray you get your ultrasound quickly so you don't have to stew for too long and praying for a healthy outcome for you!!

I had one of those ultrasounds. It's not too bad(a little embarassing ) and the good thing is that you don't have to drink all that water! Praying that God gives you peace in the knowledge that he is in control and loves you very much snoochface

Heh, unfortunately me and my teeny-tiny bladder are going to be hating life for an hour or two, because they told me I do have to drink all the water. 32 oz in a half hour, holding it until the test is done. I'm scared I'll have a little accident during the exam!

Yah, when I had the normal external, with the gel on my tummy ultrasounds, I had to drink a ton of water and hold it. But when I had internal ultrasounds, the tech. said I didn't have to, that they get a better picture internally. It is probably up to the technician, and probably depends on their level of empathy.

I live about an hour away from the facility I was getting tested at.
I took the water before I left because they told me an hour before.

Once at the hospital I find they are running really slow.
I HAD to use the restroom and I did.

They were concerned that the test would not work.
I had brought some more water with me and consumed it.
I assured them water goes thru me in about 15 minutes.

It worked out fine.
I did apparently have both test the same day - external and internal.

Oh that is so good to know! Because I asked her... I know my bladder, I KNOW I'm going to have issues, and I asked what do I do if I just absolutely cannot hold it any longer. I asked if I could bring some water with me and start over, and she said probably not. I'm very happy to hear that it worked for you. Thank you for starting this thread and sharing your experience with me!

First off, I want you to know I just said a prayer for you that everything will turn out fine...give all your cares over to God, one of His jobs is to worry FOR us!!

Secondly....BA (Before Andie ) I used to work in a radiology office and among other stuff we did ultrasounds there. In our office, for an external pelvic ultrasound you had to drink water & have a full bladder (it gives a better picture), but for the internal you didn't have to drink the water.

You might want to re-verify that you truly do have to have a full bladder for this one, but if you do, don't fret about keeping your bladder full. If a woman came in to our office, and absolutely couldn't hold it, we'd just tell her to try to go "just a little bit" to relieve the pressure. If worst came to worst, she'd just go potty & then drink all the water again...but we were a really small office.

I'm kinda confused now. The doctor told me he wanted me to get two ultrasounds - the abdomen one and the internal one. That's what I told them when I made the appointment, and I'm sure that's why they told me I had to drink the water. But I just looked at the actual order and only the pelvic ultrasound is checked. So I'm going to call the doctor's office and the lab again on Monday and find out what they're really planning on doing.

I can't tell you guys how much I appreciate all the support and prayers I'm getting. Y'all don't even know me and still you care - and it shows. It really means a lot to me, and I want you to know I'll keep all of you in my prayers as well. Big big thanks.

Snoochface, as a long time veteran of all things gynocological, if you have any questions I may have an answer. I have had EVERY female test avalible.
An abdominal ultrasound is not painful, just a tad uncomfortable because of the need to have a full bladder. The second is called a vaginal ultrasound. This is the one with a prob. It does not hurt, but again can be uncomfortable.
What does the doctor think he is feeling? Are they giving you any ideas? If it is a mass on one side or the other it could just be a functional cyst...very common usually not a problem as they can go away on their own.
What other tests have you had?
Anyway, I am here anytime you need to talk about these things.

It was back in my mid to late 20s - trying to remember.
They started with the abdominal ultrasound and then did the vaginal probe.

That's how they usually did it where I worked. First they'd do the pelvic ultrasound (abdominal), which is on the outside & you have a full bladder. Then, if the doctor couldn't get the results he was looking for or wanted another "view" or whatever, they'd do the vaginal one which is the internal one with the probe.
