Well, here's what happened. He was doing the pre-exam stuff, and he was pressing on various spots on my belly. One of them in the lower left part of my abdomen had pain, which I've had for probably a couple of years now. My primary care doctor never acted concerned about it, and my previous obgyn never noticed it. This doctor I guess was concerned, so when he was doing my pelvic exam he started feeling around more in that area, but from the inside (sorry to get so graphic). That's when he felt something.

He said he doesn't know what it is, or even where exactly it is. He said he could be feeling my uterus, if it was enlarged or enflamed for some reason, he said it could be a cyst on an ovary or on my uterus, it could be a mass in or on my uterus, or it could be bowel. He really had no firm ideas. He asked about any other symptoms, but I honestly can't say I've had anything that he mentioned, except that sometimes when I sneeze or cough hard a little pee leaks out (again, sorry for the graphics, gah). But he didn't seem really concerned about that part.

So he said to be sure what we might be dealing with, the two ultrasounds - one inside, one outside - were the way to go, and we could talk about the next step one we know what he was feeling. One of my sisters has had cysts on her ovaries, so maybe it's something like that. I don't know if these things run in families or not. Another sister had a hysterectomy, but I don't know why - just that she was in the oncology (cancer) unit of the hospital.

But even if it's something relatively benign, whatever it is will still have to come out won't it? I mean... do they leave cysts, or do they always remove them?

Well as I was told back then (if my memory is correct) is we as women have a sloughing effect going every month. Sometimes if that does not happen normally then a cyst happens. They can naturally slough off later which is what mine did. So it is not always necessary to remove them. But if you have had yours for awhile that may be an issue. I had previously had a D&C because of irregular periods. The two ultrasounds where followup to that.

(Sorry guys, if you are reading this)

Snoochface, as for removing it it depends what kind of cyst it is. But you do not even know whether it is a cyst yet.http://www.ovarian-cysts.com/html/types.php3
Many gynocological disorders are hereditary. What kind of cysts did your sister have? You may want to ask her.
Not all cysts need to be removed, often if necessary they can drain them, many times though that does not even need to be done.
I would not get too worried as right now, you know so little. You will know much more after your ultra sounds.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34

I hold this verse to my very heart anytime I am anxious. It helps.

That's a great verse, and definitely one I need to remember more often. Thank you for sharing it with me.

And thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences. I feel a lot better this morning, and I feel like that's because a lot of people have been praying for me (my husband included - he's been wonderful). I'll let you know what happens after the ultrasounds next week.

 and thanks to all of you.

Just a quick update...

I finally talked to the doctor yesterday about my test results. I have a whole bunch of tumors in my uterus (they believe them to be non-cancerous) so I have to have a full hysterectomy. If the on-the-spot pathology while I'm still asleep confirms that there is no cancer present, that'll be all they do. If there is any cancer, they will take my ovaries too, and snip at a bunch of other internal bits to make sure it hasn't spread. But they think that is unlikely.

I have to start taking a med (in shot form) for three months that is supposed to reduce the size of the tumors so they can remove the uterus. Right now it's more than twice the size it should be and I guess it's too big for them to remove laproscopically. Once the tumors are shrunk down a little, they'll be able to take it out more easily.

The meds bring on a pseudo-menopause for the three months I'll be taking them, so if you see me alternating between sobbing hysterically and shrieking like a mad-woman in my posts on CF, you'll know why. ;) (My poor hubby!)

Thank you again for all the prayers and well-wishes. I am very appreciative of the encouragement. I'm a little scared of what is to come, but it's three months down the road so I have time to adjust to it all.
