For new Christians reading scripture.

Think about this!

You are not in a race. Don't try to read for distance, read for depth. You won't grow closer to God by reading 83 verses everyday without understanding. You draw closer by reading and thinking about and praying about the verses you do read.

Have your focus on drawing closer to God through your quiet time with him, not on "well a got my reading in for today".

Its OK if you have not read the whole BIBLE in one year!

Amen Deputy!!! Also, let me encourage ya all on something. If you start not getting much out of your Bible, don't stop. Just keep at it and the LORD will bless it. I remember when I was first truly walking with God and reading the Word, I wouldn't get much out of it, but now, I get so much out of it every time!!!

thanks DeputyDan, I thought it was just me that took a long time to get through the bible, and felt guilty about it. it is kinda overwhelming sometimes, as it seems like there is so much of it to read and which bit should you start with.
there seems to be a big difference between studying the bible for my degree, and studying it to be closer to God. or is that just me?

I believe God is all about his personal relationship with you as an individual.

God wants that private personal time. The reading the whole Bible is something we impose on ourselves. Its a good thing to do but not a requirement for salvation or the be close to God.

Do you think it would please God if we read His Book ?

What does "The Bible" say about reading Gods words?

How much time do we spend a day reading other stuff?

Do we gain anything by reading the Bible?

I believe also that in reading the Bible  it builds character and discipline.
