For anyone that thinks we don't have anything in common with other primates...

If I am not like sheep, you are not like an ape. A procrastinator in search of an argument?

The OP was simply a light-hearted attempt to highlight behavior in monkeys that anyone who has eaten a banana can identify with. Nothing more than that.

I've have no idea what you mean. Just as I had no idea of the intent of your first post.

On one point you are correct. I am not like an ape; I am an ape.

Why would a procrastinator be in search of an argument? They are much more likely to sit around, waiting for an argument to come to them.

You are a different species as you can not produce ape offspring even if you can eat bananas and climb trees. Monkeys can not read and write. They do have hands and feet. A raccoon has hands too.

Taxonomically speaking when referring to humans being "apes" refers to the family of great apes or hominidae. These include gorillas, chimps, orangutans and humans: Hominidae - Wikipedia

As this is a taxonomic classification, it's not really a point of debate. It's simply how groups of organisms (including us) are classified in biology.

Some ignorance there. Let me help you out:
  • Apes are not a species. Apes are a Superfamily, the Hominoidea. That superfamily includes gibbons, organs, humans, bonobos, etc.
  • Since I am an ape, then my two children and four grandchildren are also apes.
  • Monkeys are not apes, so I have no idea why you mention them. Wait a moment. I do know. You don't understand biological classification systems.
  • As part of that latter ignorance you think that monkeys are closer genetically to the othe,r non-human great apes, than the latter are to us. If that is what you think, you are mistaken.
So, what argument do you present to justify excluding humans from their formal, biological classification as apes?

Note: Ignorance is an oft misunderstood concept. We are all, necessarily, ignorant of more than we are knowledgeable of. There is absolutely no shame in that. Choosing to remain ignorant on an issue important to one is a different matter.

When I was a kid I was told that if you took the banana strings, dried them and then smoked them, you could get a high. Guess what?

I got pretty sick.

You never see other primates doing that. Does that mean they are smarter?
