FOTF, if you are who you claim to be, is a worth while parachurch ministry. FOTF and DJD have stood in opposition to the downward spiral of morals (often calling upon massive voting blocs to lobby congress and the white house). Hence the persecution of those FOTF opposed.

The problem with parachurch ministries is that the church itself has been in apostasy for centuries. If the church were not limping along on lame legs, it would not need nor tolerate the crutches of parachurch organizations. The organization of the church itself has left it open for attack and influence.

In 1996, I went home to Connecticut. Not much here like Dobson's group. Used to go into a newstand every month to buy the "American Spectator". Asians owned the store. Very shy people. One day, after a few months of me buying one of their two copies of the Spectator, the young girl at the counter motioned me over. She could not speak much English. She said.."You name?...I know good people... you like them...they send you things".

Lo and behold, she signed me up for mailings from Hillsdale College and Focus on the Family.

8 months later, before I relocated to CT for good, I went back to the store. She spoke conversational English. Told me she was from Taiwan. Dobson's material had reached her and she came to America to become a teacher, to major in sociology at Yale. Then she blushed. She said she was so naive. She knew our education system was good but didn't know higher ed was filled with the marxists. She switched her major to biology.

Wish I could find her today. She and her family are inspirations.

Yeah. Right. The opposite side, the many nonprofits George Soros has, the attacks on the faith Norman Lear's "People for the American Way" have launched have not been sucessful. The endless editorials against the faith by the New York Times have not have any results. The stream of books liberals are cranking out attacking the "religious right" are a misguided attempt to change minds.

Christians should stick to their churches and shut up. They are hypocrites who need to reform their institutions before daring to speak outside them.

We should not speak outside our churches, we should not form non church organizations which reflect our beliefs. We should listen to Frank Rich, Paul Krugman, Arthur Sulzberger Jr, Richard Cohen, Norman Podhoretz, Bill Kristol and others not of our faith to know what we should do.

I don't believe that for a minute. Do you? Really?
Oh boy. Another "laundry list" rant from Voeglin.

Number 32: "Focus on the Family vs Lib'ruls".

I lost all respect for Dobson and FOF with the Gil Moegerle business. Dobson refused to meet with them to discuss matters and when they filed a lawsuit and other Christians exhorted all parties to use Christian conciliation instead of going to the courts, the Moegerles were willing but Dobson was not, saying that he had done no wrong. Millions of ministry dollars were spent by a man who could not even entertain the possibility that he had done something wrong.

Focus on the Family is the epitome of why Christians can rarely be taken seriously. They continuously miss the point of Christianity by seeming to make small, pointless battles against society actual spiritual growth. These utterly worthless causes and watered down drivel they send out are childish. They (if are any good at all) are like candy- they make you feel better about yourself, but don't offer any substance. Your soul will not be any better if Spongebob is taken off the air, Marylin Manson taken off the shelf, and the homosexuals can't marry. To think so is an utter joke, and the core sham of FOTF.

I work at Focus on the family and we get alot of protesters. Some say their chirstians pleas tell me what you think of focus.

I like them but I don't like their ecumenism and I think that, for all of the good things that James Dobson says, he also gets into a lot of pop-theology that's on Biblically shaky ground.

I used to think highly of James Dobson untill I found out that he obviously had a bias in stories just to make his point rather than being factual. For example Ted Bundy did not have a normal upbringing. However Dobson claimed he had a perfectly normal upbringing and said all of Ted Bundy's problems started with porn and that was why he became a serial rapist/killer. Other things that I have heard FOTF say I just can't agree with. They do however do some good. They just need to IMO make sure they have integrity in their actions and do research into things to find out info that is readily available so they aren't misleading people. As I said they do still do good things so like most groups there are pros and cons.

Be more helpful if those so criticial of Christian groups said what groups they like rather than be negative all the time.

I can tear apart any religion and any denomination. From Quakers to Buddhism to Catholicism to Lutherans to FOTF from the outside. It is easy. Say they aren't living up to their beliefs is the easiest way.

Might make me feel good about myself (for a while ) to do so but skirts the main point.

Most groups of people, religious or otherwise are far stupider than the stupidest member by themselves. I don't have to tell you what I like because I don't like any of it, and the only thing I'd do to fix a Christian group that was being such a failure is disband. Focus on your own freakin' family people.

So is it ok for me to respond? After all I'm not negative all the time. I speak out aginst anything that needs improving. If I can I will make suggestions however I don't know enough about FOTF to make suggestions for improvement except they ned to research things properly.

I can only think of positive things about FOTF. They do good work with prisoners. They offer families good entertainment over the radio. (Adventures in Odyssey and other shows) They offer parents resources to assist them raising Christian children in this secular world. They fight for Chrisitan values.

I know many do not think that Christians should worry about the laws of this world, but someone has to fight for our values. If no one fights for our rights as Christians, we will lose them.

I was not aware of some of the issues brought up here that I will look into them, but I still think over all they are a good organization.

No organization is perfect, because the people running them cannot be perfect.

I don't believe any value that we assign to be Godly and being Christian should EVER have to be 'fought' for. If we Christians recognize them as values, and they are blessed by God, we will always have them. To me, the idea of 'fighting' for values kinda reminds me of how Judas wanted Jesus to fight the Roman authority. But that isn't how Jesus works.

Edit: Additionally- I must wonder. Jesus said he was never going to set up an earthly kingdom... so why are so many people obsessed with trying to turn America into a Kingdom of God?
