• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

hi tim

i don't have any experience with that drug, but i'm a google adict and i had to search it up. tells you how curious i can be hehe

from the information i could find, it's a new drug, that has been released in may last year. it's an isomer of Ritalin, it's been tested on a few hundred persons for 5 to 7 weeks and some continued for 6 months. it's suposed to be better tolerated and half the strenght usualy works.

I also recomend you read the information on drugs(.com) by doing a search for focalin xr. one thing i would be the most concerned about is if the child can comunicate well enough to signal a side effect if ever that was the case.

i also just found a site with a long, long tread of peoples that talk about their experience with focalin or other drugs. ( it wont let me post links until i reach 15 posts so i don't know how )... medicalnewstoday (.com) is the site. I was hoping to be more specific, and i hope i'm not testing my boundaries too much.

i hope this is helpful and that other peoples can share their experience with you.

I'll keep your son and family in my prayers

Thank you for your help with the infrom. His first day of school today after taking it this morning was a good day. The only thing was that he didn't eat his lunch so we don't understand what happened with his lunch. He is a big 8 year old so the dr. said he could afford to loose some weight. I took him & his 10 year old sister on a bike ride when i got off work today; 77 in FL is nice right now. Thanks again,
tim

hi Tim

Glad to hear his first day went well, and that the weather is so nice, here it's getting around the freezing point at night, we should have snow soon enough.

i was wondering if your son's apetite returned to normal? because it is a possible side effect of the medication that could indicate it's hurting his stomack and lead to ulcers. i hope it's not the case. it would be a shame that something that can help his behavior would hurt him.

Peace be with you

I talked to the principle of his school when i dropped him off this morning, and she said that they could tell the medicine has helped calm him down. He is doing much better now that he is now the medicine. tim
