For those of you who've never seen a flying squirrel in the wild and would like to see one, here's a way to see one. When you come across a snag (ie, a dead tree), with woodpecker holes, thump on the snag with a stick or rock. If flying squirrels are occupying the tree, they'll pop out of the woodpecker holes and glide to another tree. Its really cool seeing them glide. I've seen northern and southern flying squirrels in the wild. They are much more common than people realize. Start thumping on those snags!!!
