Here's another one....
All the way back in 2002 this was exposed as nonsense.

You've had 20 years to catch up. Am I expected to take you seriously on this topic?

I really thought it was a simple question to answer. I'll try again - because it seems the answer is not the one I would possibly expect: Do you not think that self esteem, especially in children, is vitaly important?

Ignoring for the moment any manufactured method of getting children to achieve self esteem (it should be partly a natural result of a good education), are you really saying that it's not necessary? You did say that you didn't know why it was emphasised as being important.

Again, I'll lay out where your tax dollars are going....

1. You pay taxes, they should, in part...fund your child's education.
2. The state and local taxes are probably enough to keep your schools afloat....but many definitely need help.
3. Federal taxes are allocated to schools...but not in the form of decent wages for teachers, better supplies and equipment, cleaner better schools...
4. They go to "teacher educational programs" that are extremely expensive and tell teachers the new way to teach.
5. The new way to teach in no way improves academic outcomes.
6. These programs are so expensive because....
7. It's been 20 years, you don't know you've already been taken by a scam, and the new scam has a pretty ribbon on it like the old one.

You didn't find it a little odd that they've been removing standardized testing?

How many times are you going to deflect?

No.

In regards to academics, it has no correlation to academic improvement. If you praise a child for mediocrity...you end up with an overconfident fool. Parents that consistently pressure a child to improve may not end up with an egomaniac, but their children will have ability.

Maybe you didn't notice...

They're already ego driven fools who want praise for nothing.

Look...you guys are spending average 15k per student Finland spends 8,800 euros (which is what? Around 10k$ per student?)

And they are miles ahead of us academically.

Your tax money is wasted...because you have no clue how it's spent. You're easily robbed. The issue isn't funding nor lack of solutions. If you don't want to blame the crooks you voted for that's fine...

Blame yourself. That, or go to a school board meeting and demand they stop robbing you. Your children aren't walking out of high school writing complex algorithms and reciting Homer. They're practicing goofy dances in front of the mirror and trying to figure out if they're a pansexual bi unicorn or just a pansexual unicorn.

I suppose having to ask the question only 4 times could be.considered a success...

So do you have any interaction with children whatsoever? You seem utterly unaware of how it impacts them. Any parent or teacher will tell you that it's vitally important. It really emphasises how little attention anyone should attend to any of your arguments about schooling when you know so little about schoolkids.

Both parents and teachers are failing those children. Did you not notice the economy retract? Did you not see the "anti-work" movement amongst today's youth? Perhaps you haven't seen the streets lined with homeless people overdosing on fentanyl.

I can understand why what I'm telling you isn't popular. It's not intended to be popular. Primary education is garbage, secondary education is almost as bad. You're sitting here telling me that "self esteem" is vitally important. Cool. Can you pull up some hard data supporting that?

Good grief...I have to prove to you that self esteem is important to children? I have to link to information that shows you that low self esteem in kids is something that all parents are concerned about? I need to show you a technical paper that explains how to to bring up children?

We're done.

It's your claim....but I get it. A world full of information at your fingertips and I've asked for too much by requesting some sort of proof of your claims.

How about a softball question?

What is the significant difference between "self esteem" and "confidence"?

My grandmother was a farm wife, married in 1925 at 15, with an eighth-grade education.

She taught her five children how to read before they started school. They all went to college.

She taught me how to read before I started school.

I don't believe there is any valid reason why there are kids being graduated today after 12 years of school without knowing how to read.
The illiteracy rate now is 1/10th the rate in the 1920s. It is great your grandmother did what she did (sincerely), but don't confuse anecdote with data.

You didn't get my point. People were illiterate in the 20s because they hadn't gotten to school at all.

Learning to read only takes a couple of months. In anyone with normal mental capabilities, it only takes a couple of months. It's just not that difficult.

In a nation where school is mandatory (different from the 20s), there is no excuse for someone having been in school 12 years--or even one year--without having learned to read, unless they have been able to diagnose a mental deficiency.

I always think about the scene in "The Miracle Worker" where Helen Keller realized those finger patterns formed a word and unlocked the key to knowledge.
That was how my three children learned to read. They read their first Seuss book and could read the newspaper.
But I realize it's not that easy for some kids...but there are tools. Do you know there is a dyslexia font on your kindle and computer?
No one in my family has dyslexia, and few people know about it, but I think it's great, especially since most kids carry their textbooks on tablets now.

Wow really? So dyslexics see jumbled words in an actual consistent way? I always thought the jumbled words were random and different for each dyslexic person.

I don't know that much about it. If you look at it certain parts of letters seem to be in bold to give the reader clues. It might not be perfect, but if it wasn't helpful it wouldn't be an option on e-readers.
My sister has macular degeneration and she says it is easier for her to read.
