  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So lastnight i was drifting to sleep and then all of the sudden i felt myself kind of floating or drifting above myself. It was as if my spirit became separated from my body and i was being hurled to somewhere or another state. It was like i could go anywhere but i could see nothing. I knew i was in my bed but yet i wasn't fully there if that makes sense. It was a strange feeling. I tried to convince myself in my mind that i was just dreaming but it just didn't feel right, so I had to force myself to wake up (which was struggle) and I prayed in Jesus name for a goodnight sleep. When i closed my eyes I felt myself drifting again... this was l like within a minute or so. I shook myself to wakeup and prayed once more. For a third time this happened to me, but this time i struggled to wake up. All i could do was open one eye and look around. I kept trying to say "Jesus" but couldn't. It was as if i being smothered and i was groaning but couldn't speak. I was fighting to keep myself awake because i felt so drowsy and then somehow i was able to come out of it. I prayed a little longer and then this time i was able to sleep. This all happened lastnight and all 3 incidents were within minutes (not hours) of each other.

So my question is... what was going on there????? Was i being spiritually attacked? Has this happened to any of you? Could there be something medically wrong with me? I've had this happened a few times as a child but it hasn't happened in a long time and so i'm wondering what is going on here.

-September.

To be honest, I don't know. I'm hesitant to simply explain everything away by "natural causes" but at the same time, such things do have to be considered.

Sleep paralysis is something which can be physically explained. It is a common occurance in 'alien abduction' stories. Most "experts" explain it away as a fairly common natural occurance.
It has to do with the fact that in normal sleep the mind has a control mechanism to paralyse the body in order to prevent you from hurting yourself during dreaming etc. (this is fuzzy recolection based off of stuff I heard some time ago.. so the details might be a bit muddled).. anyway.. the theory is that sometimes the person comes to a state of partial conciousness (that half sleep half awake place) while the paralysis mechanism is still in place, so they are aware of their inability to move, and yet experience very lucid dreams.

Like I said, this is just a possability. Even if the experience does have natural explanations it doesn't mean you weren't experiencing something spiritual as well.

I've experienced kind of what I'm guessing is the opposite of this paralysis phenomenon. On occasion, when I'm having a dream in which I'm running or jumping or something like that, something strenuous, I will have a massive twitch (for lack of a better word) where an arm or a leg will suddenly try to move in accordance with the action I'm doing in my dream, but the rest of my body is still paralyzed. This also usually happens to me around the half asleep half awake phase and always wakes me up when it happens.

Luke 4:5 "And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time." mind you this is a slightly different exp. but the point i want to make is that Jesus Himself was attacked by the enemy and we know the outcome; the devil lost! i too have had an exp. similiar to yours and i heard this exp. mentioned more than a few times. you ever asked yourself why we have gaurdian angels protecting us? what are they protecting us from? The armies of Heaven way out number the minions of the devil. The only One to fear is God, be at peace and sleep well.:angel::angel:

Sleep paralysis. Is that correct? I'm sorry I find that funny. I wouldn't believe in alien abductions either, but it's funny, that the mechanism protecting ourselves from hurting ourselves, might mislead us to thinking about alien abductions. And there's an off chance that the people were describing a real occurence, but didn't know what they were really explaining.

If it happened within minutes, I figure that means your level of conciousness remained constant through out those minutes. The most logical and innocent answer is, you were simply "half asleep." I think there is nothing wrong here. You say this happened a few times when you were a kid? That's very interesting, but it might be more logical to look up the many philosophies on the level of conciousness when we are asleep, to understand that there is not anything to fear. If this happens again - just try to ask yourself - am I sleeping? and bring yourself back to your normal wakeful functioning.

I wasn't sleeping that's the thing. I wasn't dreaming. I could only open one of my eyes and look around at what was in front of me (which was my blinds). I was without a doubt tired and drowsy but I was still alert. I kept trying to say "Jesus" but I couldn't even open my mouth at all. All i could hear myself do was moan and groan to say it. I tried to say i'm just dreaming and shake it off but it was like i was trapped inside myself. It's a very funny feeling that comes over you (and as much as you would love to believe it) you know that you're not dreaming. That is just a very creepy experience.

...btw, I don't believe in the alien abduction thingy.

For the record, I was not saying that alien abductions were real... I was saying that the observable phenomenon of sleep paralysis is the primary way in which "experts/scientists" explain away supposed alien abduction experiences that people report.
The things reported in many cases are very similar to what was described in the OP thus the suggestion that perhaps in the state of "waking up" you were experiencing sleep paralysis.

science is a progression, it is limited rather our knowledge is limited.

Ezekiel 37:1 - The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones...

Revelation 4:1-2 - After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.

Acts 8:38And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

You could have been caught away like Philip.

Or maybe you were being attacked by the enemy.

rapid eye movement or sleep paralysis does not explain this experience, imho. the kingdom of satan is equated with serpents and scorpions, both can paralize with poison, fear being the poisen in this experience. alien abductions are not out of the realm of possibility since there is a connection with dark angelic forces and the ufo world. which brings us back to the literal reading of Genesis 6:4. KJV Gen 6:2"took"[abductions] "as it was in the time of Noah so shall it be in the end times" Again why do we have gaurdian angels ? what are they gaurding us from? not from sports injuries, i got a few.

At the same time, we must trust that the Lord's ability to protect us is greater than the enemy's ability to cause us harm.

September, I experience this quite often while awake and praying for others. I literally feel as though my feet are off the ground and I'm floating in air. I know physically that I'm not (because I always glance at my feet :D ), but the sensation is real, nonetheless.

At any rate, why don't you ask Holy Spirit about it?

I get it once in a blue moon. It can be quite frightening -- you can't move at all but you are fully conscious of what's happening.

When it happens to me, I find it very hard to breathe, as though my lung muscles are paralysed. It's worse when you have like a pillow on your chest.

The only part of my body that can move/wiggle are my feet. So I will shake it as much as I have the strength to (rem my body is in sleep mode) to 'wake' up my body.

My wife knows about it and I've told her that's the signal. "When you notice me wiggle my feet, shake me out of it for goodness sake!"

There is a biological explanation -- what Comewe11 said about the body paralysing itself so you don't act out your dreams and wack your partner!

I find that it happens when I've had a physically exhausting day. Eg when I go for my army reservist training. It used to happen a lot more often when I was working out in the gym a lot. It's like at the end of the day, when you sleep, your body just shuts off but your mind is still awake.

But I sometimes see a spiritual side to it too. eg unusually real dreams of a dark shadow or imp prancing on top of me and strangling me. I believe these episodes were spiritual in nature because the dream/nightmares were unusually real. Man it was so real.

The very first time I experienced this was many years ago when I was a teen. I was simply lying face down on my mattress in my room one night when all of a sudden, a weight fell on my back and I coudn't move or breathe. I freaked out and finally managed to winch myself out of the paralysis after about 40 secs. When I came too, I ran downstairs totally scarred.

I've never seen an aliens or demons (except when the episode is accompanied by a very real dream -- it's usually a dark figure, once an imp and usu just some dark presence.)
