But how do you know that the bible wasn't speaking metaphorically, and space travel is exactly the way in which we'll meet God in the sky?
Because He comes down to earth and rules here. As for the Rapture, when believers are brought to the clouds dead or alive, they also get new bodies at the time. No one in a rocket either got a new body, or got to the heavens in a moment.
In which case you're not helping us get to heaven, you're actually trying to prevent us from getting to heaven.
Since that is not the case, no worries. No one can prevent a believer from going to heaven.

No one knows that day, living on another planet doesn't seem to be against scripture.

Isaiah 40:22
It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in;
The man heaping up treasure in barns was not doing a good thing. He probably should have shared the wealth, fed the poor, etc. If you are God, then of course you can orbit the planet and look down. God does not leave space junk and pollute the air and rob the poor to get there.

When you have to rely on ‘if’ in a sentence you only have a supposition.
That was the way I framed the post. To make people who claim to not believe in God think. I could also have said, There is a God, and mankind really is heading to hell, and the greatest good we need is salvation.

No you didn’t. You repeated them.
Yes I did, I showed how the actual prophesy verses applied and applied exclusively to Jesus, and how you cannot tack on other verses speaking of other matters in some crass effort to sully the meaning and power of the prophesy

No true Christian is afraid of death, why should they be?
Musk can keep his rocket to Mars..:)
PS- A Christian's last dying words to his Christian family and friends gathered around his bedside are- "See you later guys"..:)
But a dying nonchristians last words are "Goodbye forever"

So you don't drive a car?, or use electricity?, we are all polluters in one way or another.

The context there was a verse someone gave where God flew over the earth. So, no He does not pollute or drive a car etc.

But you do and it's no different than space junk.

Yes, any car I drive does not fill space with junk, nor does it use as much fuel as rockets and did not cost hundreds of billions. Nor would I be trying to flee God or doomsday with it. There is a huge difference between moderate use of a car and a chicken little flee the earth program

I know this was posted in Ethics & Morality, but it will hit a natural "glass ceiling" long before it ever hits an ethical one.
Even if we could somehow terraform Mars, it will always lack the gravity, atmospheric pressure* & radiation shielding necessary to support terrestrial life.

*IIRC, atmospheric depth (hence pressure) is a function of gravity.

When they talk about doomsday, that is a world ending event. There will only be one such event and that is His return to rule here. Satan knows that. people 'inspired' to flee doomday are ignoring that, at least on the surface.

I don't really care if it somehow could. Like a spacestation can. The point is no one can flee fro the wrath to come. There will be no hiding place. No escape. Whether they make it to Mars or the Moon or somewhere else will not matter. From thence God will bring them down. All will face the music here.
I'm not questioning the fact of Jesus' return.
I'm asking how you know that Elon Musk, or anybody, plans to go to Mars solely because they want to escape future judgment. If they don't believe in God, it's unlikely they will believe in future judgement. Besides, most non-Christians I come across do not think they are sinners. They haven't committed "big" sins and try to do good and believe that is enough to get them to heaven. Any idea of a God who judges them and sends them to hell is met with denial.

“If there’s something terrible that happens on Earth, either made by humans or natural, we want to have, like, life insurance for life as a whole,” Musk said in 2020. He wants to turn the planet into a self-sustaining colony, and he reportedly told SpaceX staffers last year he envisions one million people living on Mars by the 2040s.

The bible tells us Jesus is returning to earth to rule. There is no escape. Wasting trillions trying to avoid the fate of man on earth is in my opinion a waste and not of God at all.

Thoughts?

Regarding the Second Coming, it seems to lack faith to limit Christ's role to this planet only. He was, after all, the one through whom all things were made. The experience of His return will be felt on both sides of the planet at the same time by the Christians that survive the tribulation. It does not matter where you are in the Universe to know when Christ returns. I see this more as a reopening of the door between heaven and Earth and Christ passing through. Maybe we will all be regathered to physical Earth when that happens, but this will be to a better Earth than now, in which the New Jerusalem is God's capital city for all humanity wherever they may be.

I posted on this some time ago on another thread, but the post seems to answer your question:

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. 3 As the heavens are high and the earth is deep, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable. Prov 25:2

Curiosity about God's creation is one good reason to get out there and uncover the mysteries of the universe

in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies. Genesis 22:17

The general mandate to go forth and multiply is affirmed in the promise given to Abraham. But we now know there are trillions of stars out there. You could not fit this many people on a single planet.

The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

Why not Mars as a safe haven for the church in a more gloomy future

Did not Jesus ascend to heaven give Israel a vision of a ladder that reached to the heavens, and take Elijah up to himself in a fiery chariot? Did Paul not go into the Third Heaven? This is not something prohibited, however exclusive the privilege has been. The connection between down here and up there and somehow beyond that into the spiritual realm seems biblically clear.

The highest heavens do indeed belong to the Lord but so also the Earth. Jesus came down and he is the only rightful King of Kings of this planet and every other. Where He has gone can we not follow even while we await his return? It is already a mystery how the second coming will be experienced by believers on different sides of the spherical orb of our planet. Given that mystery, it is only a matter of scale to imagine a space-faring civilization spread across the galaxy awaiting the return of the King.

In the context of your not wanting f humans in space, the orbital detritus should be a positive thing as it makes venturing to orbit more difficult and is only a threat to those vile sinners who step off of earth.

Here you display a complete inability to imagine what someone else might think. Do you claimed not to believe in Odin?

No you didn't. Just proclaiming a thing a thing is ridiculously bad logic.

I rather think mine would be "I love all so much".
Don’t be absurd, how could you possibly know your own mind and behavior better than a stranger on the internet does?

Wouldn't that be a hoot!!!! If Jesus came back and there was no one here. Just a note saying: 'So long, and thanks for all the fish.'
Yeah it would be like a SNL skit where Jesus pops onto the stage declaring "I'm here" and all you can hear is crickets. Oh and the echo of Jesus voice,

I'm here,

I'm here,

I'm here,

I'm here lol.
