I live on the east coast of Ireland. My local beach is a 10 minute walk from my home. How come I can never see Wales from that beach, zoom or no zoom. It's only about sixty miles away. But if I climb my local hill, which will take me a bit longer, the mountains (not the coast) of Wales come into view on a clear day, even with the naked eye. But no amount of zoom will let me see those mountains from the beach.

Now let's look at some photo evidence.

Here is a photo I took of an island approximately 21 miles away. My location was about 20 feet above sea level.

Now here's a photo of the same island I took after I climbed to a higher location at the same 21 mile distance. It's about 190 feet above sea level.

Much more of the island is visible. At the lower location, the lower regions of the island are obscured by the horizon.

I can repeat this all day long any day the weather allows. It's always pretty much the same. And it cannot be explained by perspective as, on a flat earth, the full side profile of the island should be visible no matter what the elevation from where I look. Even using high magnification, the lower regions of the island are always below the horizon at the lower location.

I said Ireland, not a ship or Devon. It's only about 60 miles away and should easily be visible across the water on a clear day if the water surface is flat. If it's not, you should be able to 'zoom' it into view, according to you.

Yes, we have bendy water, which is what my photos indicate. It follows the earth's curve.

If you're fit enough, then I invite you to Ireland where I will bring you to this location so you can see the evidence with your own eyes. You will need to be moderately fit though and able to climb moderate hills. I'll foot you a meal as well.

And my photos do prove something. According to you I should be able to 'zoom' in the lower regions of the island from the lower location where I took the photos. I can't. No amount of zoom brings them into view.

Yet just climbing to the higher location with the same zoom level and...voila, the lower regions of the island come into view. Same zoom, same distance, only elevation difference.
